The Chen Art Gallery is proud to present "Seeing and Being in Sound: Earle Brown and Beyond." This exhibition is guest curated by Professor Drake Andersen from the Department of Music to honor the visionary American composer Earle Brown, whose centenary is being celebrated on Central’s campus through the “Perspectives on Earle Brown at 100” event. This exhibition includes contributions from the faculty and students of the Department of Music and the Elihu Burritt Library.
Brown’s scores, which range from subtle re-imaginings of conventional musical notation to abstract geometric forms, are juxtaposed with graphic scores directly and indirectly inspired by his innovations, including works by Central Music Department faculty, students, and alumni. Visitors are invited to examine the scores up close and interact with select installation pieces and sound recordings.
Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The exhibition runs through Nov. 12.
