Success! Students publish first paper with Simmons

A paper by Dr. Reginald Simmons and co-authored by Central students Victoria Wallington, Emily Cardinale and Valentina Hernandez was published recently in the Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory, and Practice. This marks the students' first peer-reviewed journal publication.

Simmons is the founder of Success Central and a professor in the Criminology & Criminal Justice Department.

The paper, titled "Success Central: Examining the Relationship Between Peer Coaching and Success of Residential vs. Commuter College Students," explored the issues related to persistence of residential versus commuter students and the differential impact that Success Central has on residential versus commuter student success, as well we a discussion of the results and case examples illustrating the model.

Success Central is a peer mentoring program developed to support the persistence of college students. Success Central's peer mentors use college life coaching techniques to help mentees build the skills necessary for college success.
