High school students explore design, campus life, and emerging technologies

On April 23, the Design Program at Central Connecticut State University welcomed students from Eli Whitney Technical High School for an immersive campus visit that introduced them to both academic and student life experiences. The visit was organized to provide students with insight into the opportunities available within Central's Design program while also helping them envision their own potential pathways to higher education.

During their time on campus, students engaged in meaningful conversations with current Design students, who shared their perspectives on residential life and commuting. These discussions offered an honest and relatable look at the day-to-day realities of college life, helping visiting students better understand how to navigate the transition from high school to university. 

As one student reflected, “Seeing the campus and talking to students made college feel real and possible.”

The group also toured key campus facilities, including a visit to the XR Lab, where students were introduced to emerging technologies in virtual and extended reality. This hands-on exposure highlighted how design, technology, and innovation intersect within Central's curriculum. A broader campus tour further familiarized students with the university environment, resources, and community spaces.

The visit concluded with lunch at Memorial Hall, supported by the Center for Community Engagement & Social Research. This shared meal provided an opportunity for continued conversation and connection, reinforcing the welcoming and collaborative atmosphere of the campus community.
