Central Connecticut State University Office of Veterans Affairs hosted its annual Veterans Day commemoration and awards ceremony on Nov. 9 at Alumni Hall. Following the presentation of the Colors by the Army National Guard, two students received awards for public service and academic excellence.
U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Andrew J. Willard received the President’s Student Veteran Award for Excellence. He served for four years in the Air Force. Willard is pursing his bachelor's in Management Information Systems.
U.S. Army National Guard Specialist Alexa M. Duran received the Great Elm VFW Post 9945 Wethersfield Veterans Scholarship. Duran is a Criminology major who plans to pursue a career in probation and parole services.
Veterans Affairs also presented its Veterans Public Service Award for Excellence to U.S. Navy Reserve Commander John R. Buckley, who serves as chairman of the New Britain Veterans Commission.
Each awardee also received proclamations from their representatives in the Connecticut General Assembly and U.S. Senate.
