A big welcome for a new class of Blue Devils

Central Connecticut State University officially welcomed its newest Blue Devils to campus on Aug. 26 with a day of festive community-building Opening Day events.

A record number of students moved into Central's residence halls a few days ahead of Opening Day, with approximately 2,500 students settling into Central's 10 dormitories.

Carrying on a new tradition, Student Life staff set up a class photo on Vance lawn in which all new students assembled to form a large letter “C” in a gesture of school spirit.

The New Student Convocation ceremony marked the official beginning of the students’ academic experience at Central and included addresses of encouragement from President Toro and her leadership team.

During her remarks Toro said, "Today marks the beginning of an incredible journey of discovery and growth. You have chosen to pursue higher education, and that is a courageous—and exciting—decision that I promise will change your lives for the better."

The celebration continued with a barbecue lunch on Vance Lawn for all students, faculty, and staff. After an afternoon of Dean’s Welcome sessions across each academic school, the campus community gathered once again at the Student Center Circle for Kizer’s Kickoff, an annual early-evening get-together featuring music, food, and entertainment.
