Biography

Ying Chen, Ph.D., CFP®, is an Assistant Professor of Finance and Program Director of the CFP Board-registered Financial Planning Program at Central Connecticut State University. She holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in Personal Financial Planning, as well as a Master of Science in Accounting (MSA), from Texas Tech University. She is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. Before joining Central Connecticut State University, Dr. Chen taught undergraduate and graduate financial planning courses in the School of Financial Planning at Texas Tech University. She is passionate about teaching, research, professional development, and community engagement. She has taught financial planning and finance courses (e.g., personal financial planning, financial modeling and analytics, retirement planning and estate planning, and financial planning capstone). She has extensive experience teaching in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online courses and has consistently received strong student evaluations. Dr. Chen is an active researcher whose work has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Her research focuses on household financial behavior, FinTech in financial planning, financial well-being, emotions and personality traits, and the psychology of financial planning. Beyond teaching and research, she actively engages in professional development that shapes the aspiring next generation of financial professionals and community initiatives that promote financial education, financial well-being, and the development of the financial planning profession.
