Measure 1

The Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) is committed to using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate completer effectiveness. Although surveys and focus group interviews were initially selected as primary data collection methods, these approaches proved ineffective due to consistently low survey response rates and scheduling challenges that limited participation in focus groups. As a result, the EPP elected to transition to one-on-one interviews with representative groups of completers.

During Fall 2025, the EPP completed several foundational steps to support this initiative. These included:

  • Defining interview goals and identifying the specific insights to be gathered from completers;
  • Establishing criteria for selecting representative completers;
  • Developing a semi-structured interview protocol that includes open-ended and follow-up questions; and
  • Creating outreach strategies for identifying, recruiting, and inviting participants.

To support the implementation of the interview process, designated faculty members within each initial and advanced program were assigned responsibility for identifying participants, coordinating schedules, and conducting interviews. Oversight of the process, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting, is provided by the EPP CTEN Assessment Subcommittee.

All initial and advanced programs participate in a comprehensive assessment process designed to evaluate completers’ impact on PK-12 student learning and their effectiveness in applying professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Representative interview groups are selected according to the following criteria:

  • Completers must have graduated between 2020 and 2024.
  • For initial certification programs, two completers are selected from both the BS and post-baccalaureate pathways in secondary mathematics, science, English, history/social studies, world languages, TESOL, elementary education, music education, art education, dance education, special education, technology education, and physical education, resulting in a total of 10 completers per program.
  • For advanced programs, two completers are selected from the Master’s and Sixth-Year Certificate programs in Educational Leadership and Literacy Education, resulting in a total of 10 completers per program.

Through these interviews, the School of Education seeks to gain meaningful insight into the extent to which its programs prepare candidates to address real-world educational challenges. The interview process will provide completers with an opportunity to offer valuable feedback regarding their direct contributions to student learning growth (R4.1 Completer Effectiveness) and the ways in which their preparation has influenced their professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions in practice (R4.3 Completer Satisfaction).

The EPP is currently refining and calibrating the interview instrument, including training interviewers to administer the protocol consistently, minimize bias, and ensure the collection of reliable data. A pilot implementation of the interview process will occur at the conclusion of the Spring 2026 semester, followed by full implementation beginning in Fall 2026. Data from the interviews will be incorporated into the 2026-2027 annual report.
