Central celebrates Puerto Rican pride at annual parade

Rain couldn’t dampen Central’s spirit at the annual Hartford Puerto Rican Parade on Sept. 13, as students, faculty and staff came together to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and community.

Central’s group traveled through the streets of Hartford aboard a colorful parade float, joined by New Britain Mayor Robert Sanchez. The parade drew nearly 3,000 marching participants, including school groups and bands, cultural organizations representing communities from around the world, entertainers, and others.

The parade, the largest in Hartford and the greater Hartford region, made its way through one of the largest Puerto Rican communities in the United States before concluding at Bushnell Park. There, the celebration continued with Festival del Coqui, bringing music, culture and community together for an afternoon of festivities.
