What are TRIO SSS and SSS Teacher Prep services?
The purpose of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is to increase the number of first-generation and/or low-income college students or students with disabilities who successfully complete a program of study at the postsecondary level.
The SSS Program at Central provides students with support services aimed at increasing retention and graduation rates through tutoring, mentoring, advising, major/career planning and assistance with graduate school preparation. In addition, SSS students participate in a five-week summer program before freshman year, where students complete up to two (3) credit courses (at no cost) in English and math while also receiving study skills seminars and participating in other activities.
In order to be considered, students must meet at least one or more of the following:
- Neither parent earned a bachelor’s degree
- Meet income qualifications
- Have a documented disability
And also, be:
- A US citizen or permanent resident
- Admitted and enrolled, or eligible to be enrolled, at Central in the current or next academic term
- Seeking academic support
Ultimate Goal
Our ultimate goal is to help undergraduate students overcome social, academic and personal barriers that could prevent them from attaining a bachelor’s degree
