Activities/Leadership Development
The Department of Student Activities/Leadership Development
(860-832-1990) is located on the second floor of the Student Center and aids
all recognized student clubs and organizations in developing many educational,
recreational, social, and cultural extracurricular activities. These activities
are co-curricular in their goals. One of the major functions of this office is
to create opportunities for student leaders to develop, using workshops,
seminars, instruction, and a recognition program.
The office is also responsible for
advising the Central Activities Network (CAN) and for the general coordination
of student activities. CAN is the major social and educational programming body
at CCSU and the programming body of the Student Union Board of Governors
(SUBOG). CAN will design and implement events and services that meet the
varying needs of CCSU students and build community on and off campus. This will
be accomplished through the following six programming/service categories of the
CAN: social, cultural, educational, recreational, wellness, marketing/promotional.
Students volunteer their time and energy to plan and implement over 150
programs a year for the CCSU community, including major events such as Opening
Week, Winter Week, and Spring Week.
Students who volunteer with the
Central Activities Network gain valuable experience in leadership, teamwork,
communication, time management, and budgeting skills. The main component of CAN
is fun, friendship, and leadership through programming. The organization is
open to all CCSU students and welcomes input and ideas from everyone. For more
information, please stop by the CAN office located on the second floor of the
Student Center, Room 203, or check out the website at http://stdctr.ccsu.edu/can.
