FIRST STATEWIDE CONFERENCE ON MINDFUL EDUCATION
OCTOBER 19 @ CCSU Student Center, Alumni Hall, 8:30 am - 4 pm
EARLY REGISTRATION & DISCOUNT THROUGH SEPT 15
You are cordially invited to attend the first annual statewide conference on "mindful education" at Central Connecticut State University on October 19, 2012.
The focus of the conference Mindful Education: Building Inner Resilience will be on how mindfulness can serve as a foundation for teaching and learning. Dr. Daniel Barbezat, Professor of Economics at Amherst College and Executive Director of the Center for the Contemplative Mind in Society, will be the keynote speaker. The conference is presented in conjunction with Capital Community College and is co-sponsored by the Hartford Seminary and the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education.
As an added feature, we will be providing a live simulcast of the talk given that morning by the Dalai Lama at Western Connecticut State University. The Dalai Lama believes that public education must play a pivotal role in cultivating inner values such as compassion, justice, and self-discipline.
Conference workshops will highlight bringing mindfulness into Connecticut schools, using mindfulness in the treatment of post traumatic stress, contemplative practices withing Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and dissolving prejudice through mindfulness.
