Hear James Yee, former Army Chaplin, imprisoned for 76 days for opposing cruel treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay

After being officially recognized twice for outstanding performance, Captain Yee was arrested and imprisoned in a Naval brig for 76 days in September 2003 while being falsely accused of spying, espionage, and aiding the alleged Taliban and Al-Qaeda prisoners. He was held in solitary confinement and subjected to the same sensory deprivation techniques that were being used against the prisoners in Cuba that he had been ministering to.
Yee’s story is part of the larger government assault on civil liberties that has targeted Muslims, immigrants, peace and labor activists. On December 31, 2011 President Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Following Yee’s talk panelists Mongi Dhaouadi and Denisa Jashari will discuss the NDAA, the attack on civil liberties.
