Welcome to the Counseling and Wellness Center website. We offer free and confidential services to full and part-time students including individual, group and relationship counseling. We counsel people who are experiencing difficulty due to depression, anxiety, relationship issues, drug and alcohol problems, eating disorders, gender issues, and many more. People also come here strictly for information. They may be concerned about a friend or family member, or might need information for a class presentation or an essay. Your privacy is very important to us. The Counseling and Wellness Center adheres to strict confidentiality guidelines. Please read our Informed Consent Form which is discussed with each student prior to counseling. This website also includes self-tests on depression, anxiety and eating disorders. You can take them privately and, if you have any concerns about the results, give us a call and speak to a counselor. One especially useful test to take is the e-CHUG, an interactive web-based test that gives you practical feedback on your alcohol use. The Counseling and Wellness Center sponsors several outreach days throughout the academic year. See Calendar for a listing of these events. Prevention is also a priority. We recognize that many problems might be minimized or even avoided if information or help had been provided before a crisis was reached. Therefore, our counselors are also available for presentations on a variety of issues such as stress reduction, eating disorders, lowering risk for problems with alcohol, and others. We have been invited into residence halls, classes, clubs and organizations, and community groups in order to share a prevention or educational message. The Counseling and Wellness Center sponsors a group called Natural Helpers. They are students who have been nominated by their peers as good listeners, and generally good people to talk to for advice or support. We invite you to visit their web page and take a look. What is counseling?
Why is counseling so important? Every day, some form of counseling makes a difference in the lives of individuals around the world. Counseling can be beneficial in many instances. For example, counseling can help when a person is making a life-changing decision and needs assistance with putting things in perspective, or when a person needs help with improving or developing life skills.
MIND Your Health Counseling and Wellness Center Services are private and confidential, and no fee is charged , however, it's possible that you may prefer to see someone off campus, especially during the summer months when counselor availability is limited. Please go the the webpage on Referral Information to learn how to find an outside counselor or psychiatrist, and how to work with your insurance company. Additionally, you will find a short list of providers that work on a sliding scale basis; i.e. fees are based on ability to pay. Finally, please remember that the information you see on this website is not intended to take the place of professional counseling. If, after taking one of the self-inventories, you find that you have additional concerns or questions, please give us a call and set up an appointment. Our secretarial help does not cover the full
range of counseling hours. If there is no one available to pick up the
phone when you call, please leave a message. All messages are confidential. |
