Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program Objectives


Mission Statement

The Manufacturing Engineering Technology Degree Program prepares graduates for professional careers as engineering technologists. The student shall acquire knowledge in mathematics, physical sciences, mechanics, manufacturing processes, materials, design, programming, engineering standards, production planning, project planning and supervision, cost analysis and quality control. The manufacturing program provides relevant industrial experience within the academic environment to apply theoretical and practical concepts to improve manufacturing processes and mechanical or manufacturing components. The students shall develop writing and communication skills and engineering problem-solving skills and be able to apply these skills to the design, testing and manufacture of a wide variety of components. The program also provides relevant industrial experience via co-op education.

Program Educational Objectives

  1. Graduates will use the knowledge of fundamental technical sciences integrated with applied technical specialties, such as engineering materials and mechanics, and electrical circuits, and will successfully apply analytical techniques and problem-solving skills necessary to adapt to technological changes and for a career within the manufacturing industry.
  2. Graduates will use the academic experience from projects, laboratory experimentation, classroom lectures, and demonstrations, and will apply the in-depth technical knowledge attained in areas such as applied mechanics, computer-aided engineering graphics, design, manufacturing processes and materials, tooling, automation and production operations.
  3. Graduates will effectively use their communication skills in oral, written, visual and graphic modes within interpersonal, team, and group environments.
  4. Graduates will demonstrate professionalism and ethics including a commitment to utmost performance quality and timeliness, respect for diversity, and awareness of international issues; and will initiate continuing professional development that demonstrates their commitment to the responsibilities of the contemporary engineering technologist throughout their careers.
