Research Activities:

AGV Systems

  • Exploring the abilities of various sensor and vision systems for AGV navigation
  • Currently exploring the use of vision- and GPS-based navigation for single and multiple UGV systems

Utilizing Virtual Learning Environments to Prepare for Hands-On Learning

  • Exploring the effectiveness of computer-based training and virtual lab environments to prepare for hands-on learning manufacturing technologies
  • Currently working with other faculty and universities to validate existing applications

Digital Manufacturing

  • Exploring application of scanning, rapid prototyping, simulation, CAD, CAM, CNC, robotics, and PLC technologies to a fully digital design-to-manufacturing system. Includes design and implementation of demonstration system, and implementing training strategies for manufacturing students
  • Currently exploring methods of utilizing these technologies as a showcase of CCSU manufacturing laboratories, for the purposes of engaging students, attracting new students, and working closer with current and potential industry partners

Taguchi Parameter Design for Optimization

  • Exploring the use of Taguchi methodology for optimizing manufacturing and engineering applications, for use in both industrial and academic environments
  • Aided with integration into an advanced manufacturing course
  • Currently exploring applications for qualitative responses, industry outreach, integration into quality management systems and lean manufacturing

Accelerometer-Based Surface Roughness Prediction & Adaptive Control Systems in Turning Operations

  • Developed and validated in-process prediction and adaptive control systems for a CNC lathe
  • Includes major research for doctoral program approved April 2005, Dissertation published May 2005.
  • Currently exploring more efficient system training methods, alternate sensor locations
