Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. “Do I have to be in the Master's program to take SMI courses?” NO. All courses, except the Master’s core courses, are open to music educators and other musicians seeking professional development.

  2. “Do the SMI courses count toward the Master's degree?” You may apply SMI courses toward electives for a Master’s degree or apply them toward your professional development goals.

  3. "Where are classes held?" All classes will meet in Welte Hall. Specific room numbers are posted with the course descriptions in the brochures, and on the SMI website. They will also be posted at the entrance of Welte Hall and outside the SMI office (Welte, Room 209).

  4. “Do all of the courses offered carry graduate credit?” YES. All courses, including the 400 level courses, are offered for graduate credit.

  5. “How do I find the buildings on campus?” There is a campus map on the CCSU website. Click on this link to access the campus map http://www.ccsu.edu/page.cfm?p=4191 On this link you can also find a pdf version of the map that you can print.

  6. “Is there a computer lab on campus that I can use?” YES. There is a computer lab in the Marcus White Building that is open to students. However, you must have a Blue Chip card to enter the lab.

  7. “Is there a limit to the number of courses I can take in a summer?” If you are not in our M.S. in Music Education degree program there is no limit on the number of credits you can take. If you are in our M.S. in Music Education degree program the maximum number of credits that may be earned toward a degree at CCSU during one five-week term is eight.

  8. "Do I need to get a Blue Chip card?" You are not required to have a Blue Chip card. However, you would need the card if you want to use the computer lab, check out library books, make photocopies, or use the laundry machines in the dorm, or pay your tuition. The Blue Chip card also offers a discount when used to purchase food in the dining halls.

  9. "How do I get a Blue Chip card?" To get a Blue Chip card, please visit the Card Office, which is located inside the CCSU bookstore. The bookstore is located in the Student Center (see CCSU map).
