The Pop-Up Cafe and Making Value
12:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m.
Anvil Place Building (formerly the National Bank of New Britain),
51 West Main Street (next to City Hall)
This is a collaborative effort of CCSU students working together with New Britain youth, seniors, local businesses and the building's owner, Mutual Housing Association of Greater Hartford.
One goal of the event is to demonstrate the possibilities for creative reuse of the space, particularly the potential for a youth-owned and operated cafe.
Saturday's Pop-Up Cafe will feature baked goods from New Britain High School, coffee and other beverages, all available for a donation. Proceeds will be used for a CCSU scholarship fund for a New Britain student.
Live music by CCSU and New Britain youth will also be performed.
The other goal of the event is to celebrate the past, present and future of skilled manual labor in New Britain with exhibits and demonstrations of skilled manual labor by CCSU students, NBHS students, seniors, local businesses and the New Britain Industrial Museum.
The event is free and open to the public.
