Additional Admission Criteria for 

Civil Engineering & Mechanical Engineering Programs 

First Year Students
  • Eligibility to enroll in MATH 152 is met by:

    • A Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Mathematics score of 620 or higher, and completion of a two-semester high school pre-calculus or calculus course with a grade of B or better. Both the SAT of 620 and the high school course are required. Students can take the SAT test more than once.

    • Students with Advancement Placement exam credit for Calculus AB, with a minimum score of 3, will be granted credit for MATH 152 and will meet the requirement for completion of MATH 152.     • Students who do not meet the previously stated criteria may meet the MATH 152 eligibility requirements by taking CCSU's Mathematics Placement Exam given by CCSU’s Learning Center. For more information call (860) 832-1900, or visit the Learning Center - placement Testing website at:

  • Eligibility to enroll in ENG 105 or ENG 110

    • A Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Writing score of 550 or higher.

    • An ACT English score of 23 or higher.

    • College credit for the equivalent of ENG 105 OR 110

    • CCSU Essay Placement Exam score of 5 or higher.

Transfer Students
  • Eligibility to enroll in MATH 152 is met by:

    • Any of the above OR
    • Satisfactory equivalency review and credit transfer from an accredited two-year of four-year higher education institution of a Pre-calculus course and a Trigonometry course with grades of C- or higher, or a combined Trigonometry/Pre-calculus course with a grade of C- or higher, or a Calculus course with a grade of C- or higher.   • Eligibility to enroll in ENG 105 or ENG 110 is met by:

    • Any of the above OR

    • Satisfactory credit transfer from an accredited two-year or four-year higher education institution of an English course equivalent to ENG 105 OR ENG 110 with a grade of C or higher (subject to equivalency evaluation by CCSU's English Department).

Graduates of the "Engineering Science" program from Connecticut Community Colleges

CT Community College students who successfully complete the  full "Engineering Science" program as defined by the "College of Technology" articulation agreement, and earn their Associates Degree, will be automatically admitted to CE or ME programs with the entire "Engineering Science" program coursework transferred to CCSU.

CT Community college students who have not completed the full "Engineering Science" program will be considered as regular transfer students, subject to the additional admissions requirements for transfer students explained above.
