Carl F. Krein Athletic Training Facility

The Carl Krein Athletic Training Center services both the Department of Athletics and the Athletic Training Educational Program. It provides a setting for athletic training students clinical experience and is utilized as an academic setting for the instruction of athletic training courses. The athletic training facility boasts over 3,000 square feet including areas for: hydrotherapy, rehabilitation, cardiovascular conditioning, evaluation, treatment, and a spacious taping area.

The Athletic Training Facility is located in the lower level of Kaiser Hall – Room # 009. This facility is used for the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained to Central student-athlete that occur during intercollegiate practices and competition. BOC certified athletic trainers and student athletic trainers staff the athletic training facility. The athletic training staff works under the direction of team physicians Dr. Robert Waskowitz and Dr. Jeff Brown.

All modalities i.e. whirlpools, ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, and moist heat are used for injuries that have been evaluated and are being treated for by the athletic training staff. Whirlpools are considered a modality and must be used for therapeutic reasons. Use of the cardiovascular equipment housed in the athletic training facility is limited strictly for rehabilitation.

The Carl F. Krein Athletic Training Center is named in honor of Central's retired head athletic trainer, who established a nationally known and respected athletic training curriculum. Krein is a former U.S. Olympic athletic trainer who served as the university's athletic trainer for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was inducted into the Central Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. In June of 2001, Krein received the highest honor obtainable in his profession with his induction into the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Hall of Fame.

The Waskowitz Family Physician's Room and Academic Center honors the late Dr. William Waskowitz, Central team physician, and his father, Dr. David Waskowitz, who served in that capacity in the early years of Central athletics. William Waskowitz was inducted into the Central Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999, served the university for over 35 years. A third generation Waskowitz, Robert, is currently working with the Blue Devils. He is a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon in New Britain.

Weekend and evening hours varies - as a general rule the athletic training facility is typically available to visiting teams 1.5 - 2 hour prior to game time (3 hours prior for football) and as needed following athletic contests. Central does not have any athletic training facilities located at our athletic fields.
