Transfer Students

Congratulations on choosing to continue your education at Central Connecticut State University! We have a significant number of transfer students joining our community each term and this page will serve as your resource for questions regarding the Academic Advising process.

If you have questions regarding the credits you have already taken, you can view transfer credit equivalencies here.

The University's Process For Transfer Students

When you applied to the University, you submitted your official transcript. Those transcripts were reviewed by staff in the Office of Admissions and a transcript evaluation was produced. You should have received your transcript evaluation with (or shortly after) your acceptance to the University. Once you have paid your Confirmation Deposit (letting us know you are planning to enroll), the advisors in the Student Services Center for the College or School in which you are planning to enroll, are notified and will reach out to you regarding next steps.

NOTE: Students intending to enroll part-time do not have a confirmation fee.

How Does Advising Work at Central After My First Semester?

Central has a Dual Advising program. Our staff of Professional Advisors work with ALL students when they first enroll at the University. On your Degree Evaluation, they will initially be listed as your Primary Advisor. You will also be assigned a Secondary Advisor, who will be a faculty member in your major area of study. Professional Advisors remain the Primary Advisor beyond the first semester only for students who are classified as freshmen OR Lower Division OR pre-majors in certain areas of study. Once a student reaches sophomore OR Upper Division OR major status, the Faculty Advisor becomes the Primary Advisor and the Professional Advisor becomes the Secondary Advisor.

I’m A New Blue Devil, What’s Next?

Once our Professional Advisors are made aware of your intent to enroll at Central, they will begin the process of reaching out to you by email to schedule your advising appointment. The schedule for this outreach is below:

For transfer students planning to join us for the:

Summer/Fall term, Advisors will start reaching out to you in early March.

Spring term, Advisors will start reaching out to you in early November.

To Do List (Prior To Meeting With Your Advisor)

  • Review your transcript evaluation and make sure all of your transfer credits are listed. If there are credits missing, contact the Office of Admissions to see if your most recent transcript was received. If you need to have a final, official transcript sent to us from your previous institution, have it sent to Admissions@ccsu.edu
  • Look over our curriculum maps so you can start thinking about the classes you would like to take here. These are also helpful to ensure you do not repeat coursework here, that you have taken elsewhere.
  • Schedule your appointment with your advisor by following the instructions in their email. Remember, appointments are not always immediately available, so plan ahead. For your convenience, meetings can be conducted in person or virtually. During your appointment, your advisor will review your transfer credit evaluation; review our General Education and University requirements; and explain how your transfer credits are being applied to your degree requirements.

We are very happy to have you joining our Blue Devil community. If you still have questions, you can reach out to our staff via email.
