Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to manage emotions, achieve goals, feel empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. The Center for Excellence in Social and Emotional Learning at Central Connecticut State University is focused on fostering the development of social and emotional well-being across the lifespan through Education, Advocacy, and Research.

2018-2019 Objectives:

  • Implement SEL Modules in Teacher Education curriculums, while working toward including modules in all majors beyond teaching
  • Develop an Official Certificate Program (OCP) in SEL
  • Offer a conference in the spring co-sponsored by CCSU Ana Grace Project
  • Create a website presence to share the initiatives of faculty, staff, programs, and schools
  • Monitor state and federal legislation regarding social and emotional learning
  • Showcase faculty research work related to social and emotional learning
  • Examine how to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the SEL modules at CCSU
