CCSU is located in a residential neighborhood on the northern edge of New Britain, 15 minutes from the state capital of Hartford and about two hours from New York City and Boston. Our central location is a great asset to life at CCSU, providing open spaces and short commutes, easy access to two of the most vibrant cities in the country, and proximity to Connecticut’s beautiful countryside and the shoreline of Long Island Sound. Within an hour’s drive you’ll find all sorts of recreation including bike trails, cross country and downhill skiing, and sandy beaches.
The city is home to the New Britain Rock Cats, our minor league baseball team, a beautiful public golf course, and a world-class art museum. With just over 2,000 of our 12,000 students living on campus, our school population is an integral part of the fabric of the city of New Britain and the surrounding communities. Hartford is recognized for its vibrant performing arts programs and fine dining.
Our New England location guarantees us four seasons a year. Warming weather in the spring leads to new growth and an explosion of color and pleasant days. Summer provides plenty of beach, boating, and outdoor activities and the heart of baseball season. Fall creates beautiful colors as the foliage changes and plenty of opportunities for tailgating at Blue Devil football games or day trips to northern New England. As the snow arrives, so do all sorts of outside winter activities.
Add to this a lot of history, from the Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe homesteads to Mystic Seaport, and it is easy to see why we say, “Great Things Happen Here.”
