Welcome to the School of Engineering and Technology

The School of Engineering and Technology is constantly evolving and expanding its programs in an attempt to respond effectively to rapidly changing technologies and workforce demands. Now, more than ever before, global, regional, and local economies are largely driven by technology inventions and innovations. All STEM educational disciplines (Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are in the forefront of global competition and national prosperity. Education in these disciplines will prepare students for the future economy in whatever form it takes.

 

The School of Engineering and Technology at CCSU provides the highest caliber education in these professions, which are in great demand in the Connecticut. Engineering, science, and technology are the occupational areas of greatest opportunity here. The number of job openings will far exceed the number of college graduates throughout this and the next decades. Currently, the demand in Connecticut is double the number of technology and engineering graduates from all Connecticut institutions of higher education, public and private. As Connecticut’s economy continues to evolve into a “knowledge economy,” the demand for highly trained professionals in this area will only increase.

 

We offer a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate programs which will accommodate a wide variety of student skills and interests. The latest development in the School is creation of a Bachelor of Science degree program in Mechanical Engineering with specializations in aerospace and manufacturing. The School has expanded its technology and engineering technology programs and modified the former technology education program to embrace technology and engineering education. We established the department of Biomolecular Sciences, which, beyond its great intrinsic educational value, addresses Connecticut’s growing bio-tech needs. This responsiveness helps us to provide students with the highest quality, state-of-the-art education.

 

The faculty at the School of Engineering and Technology maintain an array of alliances with area industries by working on research projects, serving on advisory boards, providing on-site training, offering certification programs, and acting as consultants. This is a win-win situation, allowing our faculty insight into the industry as they offer their expertise in return. Students benefit from learning about current and future industry trends.

A career in technology, engineering, or science can be very rewarding—personally and financially. Preparation for that career can indeed be challenging, but it is the kind of challenge that opens up students’ minds to innovations and to better understanding of rapidly changing technologies. STEM careers lead students to satisfying careers and enable them to make a difference in the world: developing fuel cells to reduce energy demands; designing and building more efficient housing; creating robots to perform heart surgery; inventing technologies that we cannot even imagine today. What could be more exciting?
