Objective 5.4

Provide training for faculty and staff to aid in understanding cultural, social, personality and learning differences.

Assessment Tool:

Number of additional/new training and professional development activities provided.
Increase in number of faculty and staff participating in training and professional development activities (in-house and out)

Baseline:

458 faculty and staff (29%) attended training (2006-07)

Goal:

Participation by 50% of faculty and staff each year

Progress:

857 faculty and staff (52%) attended training (2012-13)

 

Enabling Activities:

  • Continue offering workshops emphasizing diversity conducted for all employees.

  • 52 diversity related events held between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013; ODE/Women's Center sponsored 15     

  • Mandatory diversity training should be completed by all new staff; 36 employees attended 2 sessions; increase number of diversity sessions from 3 to 8

  • New staff and administrators receive safe zone stickers and DVDs at New Employee Orientation.

  • Increase the frequency of diversity training offered to staff and students.

  • Continue to offer numerous workshops on diversity held throughout the year.

  • Annually update and disseminate procedures for requesting accommodations under the ADA to all faculty and staff.

  • The Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) annually sponsors National Disability Awareness month activities.

  • Sexual harassment prevention training occurs annually; 747 staff trained

  • Offer sexual harassment prevention training to students as well as employees; 420 students attended training

  • Establishing a clearinghouse for all diversity-related training in order to reduce overlap, ensure continuity, and adequately track performance.

  • Continue to develop online sexual harassment prevention, diversity, and other training modules for easy access by all faculty and staff

  • Identify and train appropriate staff and faculty to develop and deliver relevant diversity training.

  • Develop and implement Sexual Assault policy and protocol for all faculty and staff; protocol was developed and implemented; policy booklet and posters were developed

  • Funded 8 diversity grants
