Objective 1.1

Implement outcomes-based assessment for all academic programs, and student support services to promote continuous improvement.

Baseline:

Outcomes specified for 34 (58%) undergraduate programs
Outcomes specified for 22 (51%) graduate programs (2005-06)

Goal:

Outcomes specified for 100% of programs; 100 percent of degree programs comply with assessment policy annually; 100 percent of degree programs use evidence other than GPAs to measure outcomes for programs; 100 percent of degree programs have made changes as a result of data or evidence

Progress:

Outcomes specified for 53 (100%) undergraduate programs;

Outcomes specified for 40 (100%) graduate program (2012-13);

97% (90 of 93) percent and number of degree programs submitting assessment reports in accordance with policy;

100% use evidence other than GPA is used to determine outcomes for programs;

100% of changes have been made as a result of using data/evidence in programs (2012-13)


Enabling Activities:

  • Continue assessment policy implementation, including collection of general education assessment data in reporting template established in 2008-09.

  • Academic Assessment Committee provides customized written feedback to all academic programs and refines reporting guidelines. Continuous assessment of rubrics

  • Develop template for reporting assessment results for student support services.

  • Publicize examples of using assessment results to improve programs.

  • Encourage curricular integration.

  • Continue to assess newly established learning outcomes in Student Affairs.

  • Continue to promote identification and assessment of university-wide learning objectives.

  • Continue refining and implementing the new general education program, identification of appropriate learning outcomes and the integration of the Transfer Articulation Policy; the General Education Implementation and Assessment Committee is working with the General Education Implementation Committee, Curriculum Committee, and the Academic Assessment Committee to accomplish this

  • Developing improved strategy and process for collecting artifacts used for general education assessment.

  • Transition from using the Collegiate Learning Assessment to the VALUE rubrics outcomes Critical Thinking and Written Communication

  • Continue to engage faculty in open and productive discussions on assessment via brown-bag lunches, workshops and individual meetings with departments

  • Participating in Student Achievement Measures (SAM), Fall 2013

  • Pursue plans to assess impact of community engagement, faculty development, academic support services, and international education activities.
