Replacement Intervals and Control Panel Messages

You can identify consumable items by their labeling and their blue plastic handles. The following table lists the replacement intervals for printer consumable items and the control panel messages that prompt you when to replace each item.

Please note that low consumable warning messages begin to appear when the consumable still has about 20% remaining. This is done to allow ample time to order replacements. The printer will print normally until the consumable is completely depleted.

Installing Consumables

For complete instructions on installing consumables, see the installation guides supplied with each consumable item. Please contact the Help Desk (x21720) if you would like a technician to assist you with installing any consumable.

CAUTION: Hewlett-Packard recommends using HP products in its printers. Using non-HP products may cause problems requiring service that is not covered by the Hewlett-Packard warranty or service agreements.

Cleaning Excess Toner

Toner from the yellow, magenta, and cyan toner cartridges will accumulate on the flaps that cover the toner cartridges. Although this accumulation of toner does not cause any print defect, the excess toner needs to be cleaned from the flap occasionally. Clean the flap covering the toner cartridge and other excess toner from the printer when you are replacing toner cartridges. There is a toner cloth provided with each replacement toner cartridge to clean the toner from the printer. See the instructions included with the replacement toner cartridge for more information about cleaning the printer.

CAUTION: Do not use the toner cleaning cloth on the drum, developer sleeves in the toner cartridge, or transfer rollers. Doing so can damage these units and cause other print quality problems. If toner has built up on the toner cartridge, it may fall onto the transfer roller, which causes streaking on the media being printed. To clean the toner from the transfer roller, print several blank pages until the streaking stops.

Environmental Collection Program

Hewlett-Packard encourages responsible disposal of HP LaserJet printer consumable items through its Environmental Collection Program.
