Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band
Students of all majors may participate in the concert bands. Just follow these two simple steps:
- Register for MUS 142.
- If you wish to audition for Wind Ensemble, click the link below to get the audition
excerpts and sign up for an audition time on the band bulletin board (located outside
of Welte Hall Room 005). Auditions take place during the first two days of the academic
year. If you do not wish to audition for Wind Ensemble, you will be placed in Symphonic
Regular Class Meetings: Mondays/Wednesdays 3:05 - 5:45 P.M.Regular Class Location: HW 019.000
Course Description/Prerequisite, Academic Credit, and Music Major Information
Prereq.: Open to all students who play band instruments. Various types of literature performed. May be repeated for credit with different content. One credit.
No text is required.
Instruments, pencils, and concert attire are required. For concerts, females will wear long black dresses; males will wear black tuxedo jackets and trousers, white shirts, black socks, and black bow ties. All performers will wear black shoes.
Philosophy of Instruction
Class meetings consist of a rehearsal format leading to concerts during the semester. As time permits, musicians will learn about the compositional, stylistic, and historical aspects of the wind-band repertoire from the viewpoint of the performer.
