Sunday Maintenance Reminder

Every Sunday from 12:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. all systems (e-mail, Banner, wireless, etc.) will be intermittently unavailable while important maintenance and updates are performed.


Weekly Maintenance – Reminder

Please log off your computer when leaving for the day every Thursday, but do not power it off.  This will allow updates to be sent down to your computer on Friday after 12:00am.  If you turn your computer off and leave it off overnight on Thursday, shortly after turning it back on, your computer will restart in order to install and apply any updates. If you leave your computer logged in Thursday night into Friday, you may lose any unsaved data you were working on when the computer restarts. 


Scheduled Network Maintenance – Wednesday 11/22

On Wednesday, November 22 from 5pm until 10pm, all access to most systems including Banner will be unavailable.  This includes WebCentral-Banner Web Services, Internet Native Banner (INB), as well as all third party applications and reporting tools that access the Banner production database. Additionally, there will be intermittent unavailability to other systems including netshares and Accounts Management.  CentralPipeline will be available for access to Blackboard Learn, Outlook Web Mail and other online/hosted systems.

Wireless Updates – Thanksgiving Week

Access to the Guest wireless network will be changing on the morning of Wednesday  November 22 at approximately 8:30am.  Please visit the IT Service Catalog for instructions which will be posted that morning.

Additionally, there will be intermittent wireless outages on the morning of Friday, November 24 from 9am-12pm for maintenance/updates.


Accidental 911 Calls

The Police Department has notified IT that since the move to the new phone system, accidental 911 calls have increased.  If you do accidentally dial 911, please do not hang up.  Wait for the New Britain dispatcher to answer and let them know that the 911 call was an accidental misdial. This lets them know that it wasn't a 911 call that was cut off and they will know not to send the police.


New Macintosh Operating System – High Sierra

On Monday September 25, Apple released the next operating system called High Sierra.  This is a major upgrade and will completely change the file system (HFS) and cause compatibility issues.  Please do not upgrade your CCSU-owned Mac to the new operating system at this time.  Information Technology needs to conduct further testing to ensure this operating system is compatible with our network and systems.  Should you upgrade on your own and have issues, the only solution we may be able to offer depending on the model is to reimage your computer back to the currently supported version which is Sierra.


Ready for Windows 10 on your Office Computer?

Now that the fall semester is under way, we are ready to start upgrading faculty and staff to Windows 10.  The new image we are installing has a much faster login process and is faster overall. It includes Office 2016 as well as enhanced security features like an encrypted hard drive and mapped network drives for laptops.  To request a reimage to Windows 10, please complete the Windows Reimage Service Request form.


IT Service Request System

Requests for new services such as a loaner laptop, a new netshare for coursework, a computer upgrade or computer reimage can be requested any time, online, no need to call the Help Desk! 

From the IT homepage choose “Access and Request Forms.”  Or to see a complete list of services that can be requested online, visit and login with your Bluenet credentials (you may need to prefix your username with ccsu_comp_srv\).


Mobile Device Loaner Program

The IT Department has a variety of mobile devices available for short-term loan. Available mobile devices include:

  • Windows or Mac Laptops – you may request to borrow a Windows or Mac laptop for a period of up to 5 weeks. Software such as Camtasia, WebEx, SPSS, or Adobe Creative Suite can be installed by request. Requests should be submitted at least two days in advance.
  • iPads – you may request to borrow an iPad Air for a period of up to 3 weeks. Requests should be submitted at least two days in advance.
  • Classpack – you may request to borrow a Classpack of Google Chromebooks and/or iPads for use in your classroom for a period of up to 1 week. We have 16 Chromebooks and 10 iPads available, and they are delivered to your classroom in a cart. Requests should be made at least two weeks in advance.

To submit your request, click on one of the links above and complete the online form. You will be prompted to log in with your BlueNet account and depending on your location, you may need to prefix your BlueNet account with ccsu_comp_srv\ (for example: ccsu_comp_srv\doej).

Inactivity Lock After 15 Minutes

Starting Monday, November 20 computers in faculty and staff offices running Windows 10 will lock after 15 minutes of activity.  This is being done to better align our security settings with industry best practices.


Windows 10 Information Sessions

Please join us for an information session to learn more about our upgrade plans and the many new features of Windows 10. There is no need to register.
