International Admission Requirements
Before completing the application checklist and applying, international applicants should be aware of their additional requirements. Afterward, you may begin your application process by following the Checklist on this page and applying.
In addition to meeting all regular requirements for admission, international applicants must submit a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), when required.
International applicants must submit the following information in addition to the application form, application fee, and any program-specific application requirements:
1. An Affidavit of Support (Declaration of Finance) form, which includes provisions for indicating and verifying financial capability and responsibility (not applicable for students in programs that are completed entirely on-line). This form and supporting documents should be sent to the Center for International Education at CCSU, Barnard Hall, Rm. 123.
2. Official transcripts and records of undergraduate and graduate studies from all institutions attended.
3. Original translations of academic records produced and verified by the educational institution in the home country, or by a U.S. academic credential translation service, if such materials are not in English. Official notarized copies of originals are acceptable as well.
4. An original foreign credentials course-by-course evaluation report from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). A list of NACES members can be found here. The evaluation should include verification of the U.S. equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
5. Unless waived by the University, proof of competency in English as indicated by the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of no less than 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT); a 6.5 on the IELTS is also acceptable.

An undergraduate academic degree from an U.S. institution of higher education or from an overseas institution where the primary medium of instruction is English may be considered as proof of English competency. Click here for a list of Countries.
Central Connecticut State University reserves the right to require additional evidence of competency or to require that students admitted to graduate programs take courses to develop their English language skills. Decisions regarding the need for such courses will be made by the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies in conjunction with the student’s advisor and appropriate staff from the George R. Muirhead Center for International Education.
The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) includes highly participatory instruction in reading, writing, listening, grammar, pronunciation, speaking and TOEFL preparation. The IELP also administers an institutional TOEFL test five times per year.
Central Connecticut State University is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant, permanent resident students. These students will be required to submit proof of immigration status.
There is at present no financial aid available for non-U.S. students. Graduate assistantships may be available to international students who are available for on-campus interviews and/or who have successfully completed a semester of graduate study at Central Connecticut State University.
On-Campus Rooms & Meals
On-campus graduate student housing is available for full-time, matriculated graduate students. Meal plans are required for all students living in the campus residence halls given that there are no apartment or suites with kitchens. Housing applicants will be required to submit a non-refundable $250.00 housing deposit and must agree to a one year housing contract. Graduate housing will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.
International students are also required to submit a completed medical form before attending the university. Visit the Health Services website for international students for more details on what is required.
The information provided on the Connecticut State University Health Service form is strictly confidential and will be reviewed and used only by health care providers employed by and affiliated with Central Connecticut State University. The information contained within the health form is not shared with any staff person within the CCSU Center for International Education, U.S. immigration officials nor any other person at the University without the student’s written permission to release any part of the information on the form from the University Health Services.
