CCSU Geographical Society
About the Society
The primary mission of the Graduate Student Geographical Society is to serve as ambassadors for our field of study, for the department here at Central, and to the community writ-large. Further to those ends, we recognize that to serve as good ambassadors we must make every attempt at expanding the breadth of our geographical knowledge, and to hone related skills. We accept that being more advanced in our studies comes with associated responsibilities, which include the following:
-
Research collaboration amongst not only ourselves, but with other departments.
-
Fostering an environment where all Central students and faculty feel welcomed.
-
Interacting with, and being good ambassadors to, academics and professionals from outside of our community.
-
Applying skills learned at Central to issues confronting our neighbors, where possible.
-
The proliferation of a more common understanding of the application of theoretical and practical knowledge to contemporary issues. We will do so through discussion and debate, readings, field-trips, and the undertaking of projects.
-
Working towards establishing a greater sense of cohesion within the department’s various student cohorts through social engagement.
While the CCSU Geographical Society is officially a university graduate society, we welcome participation from those university affiliates who are interested in any area of Geography.
