Advising

Students are expected to:

  1. Contact their assigned advisor immediately upon admission to the program and meet to develop a Planned Program of Study. This Planned Program must be approved by the faculty advisor and the Dean of the Graduate School or the Dean’s designee.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  3. Demonstrate educational leadership competencies, as defined by the standards that support the program, throughout the coursework and benchmark assessments

Advisors are expected to:

  1. Be accessible during office advising hours
  2. Work with the student to develop the Planned Program of Study
  3. Monitor student progress, including issues related to incompletes in courses
  4. Confer regularly with the Department Chair about student progress

At your first advising session, you will discuss your Planned Program of Study. You will receive a Planned Program of Study form to complete with your advisor upon your acceptance into the program. Sixth Year Certificate Coursework at CCSU

The Sixth-Year Certificate in Educational Leadership is a 30-credit program.

EDL 590 Leaders as Learners (3 cr.) focuses on self-assessment of leadership, equity, & current leadership practices. Introductory course to the program.

EDL 605 and EDL 606 (6 cr.) Leadership for Teaching & Learning I and II focuses on instructional leadership.

EDL 610 and EDL 611 (6 cr.) School Leadership I and II focuses on vision, school improvement, & communication.

EDL 620 (3 cr.) Education Policy, Communities & Pluralistic Governance.

EDL 630 (3 cr.) Education Law, Ethics & Equity.

EDL 688 (1 cr.) Administrative Programs for Diverse Learners I focuses on EL programs and services.

EDL 689 (1 cr.) Administrative Programs for Diverse Learners II focuses on SPED programs and services.

EDL 690 and EDL 691 Internship in Educational Administration I and II (4 credits). Internships are typically done in your school.

A directed special education course or approved 3-credit elective is also required of all graduates of the program.
