The Field Studies in Criminal Justice (CRM 435) course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge and to gain relevant experience in the field. Through this experience, students will develop professional relationships with criminal justice agencies, which will serve as the building blocks for a successful career in the criminal justice field.
Requirements for Students
- Completing 130 hours, unpaid.
- Be punctual and reliable
- Treat the internship seriously
- Adhere to all applicable legal and ethical rules of the agency
- Keep all information confidential
- Complete work in a thorough and timely manner
- Ask questions and seek out information
Expectations of the Agency Supervisor
- Provide the student with an orientation of the agency and the responsibility of an intern
- Arrange a regular work schedule with the intern
- Monitor the intern's attendance and sign a Time Sheet each day
- Monitor the intern's performance and provide feedback directly to the intern
- Meet with the faculty supervisor for an onsite visit
- Complete a written application of the intern's performance (supervisor evaluation)
- Provide feedback to the Internship Director regarding the program and interest/need for future interns
- Report any problems to the Internship Director
