CCSU is proud to be collaborating with various community partners to provide service sites for this year’s event. This year's event is in partnership with the Ana Grace Project. This day presents a special opportunity for CCSU volunteers to see and understand the impact and importance of service, as well as take action to promote equality, justice, respect, and compassion.

Transportation will be provided.

Don’t forget to Join us on Saturday, September 28 at 12:30 p.m. for a Food Truck Festival to culminate the event!

Friday, September 27

Volunteering in Schools

Volunteers will be placed at elementary schools throughout New Britain and participate in "in-class" reading to elementary school students, gardening and other projects as assigned by the principal.

Volunteers can choose from the following time slots:

9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.
12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA)

CMHA is a local non-profit providing integrated mental health and behavioral health support to children, families and adults. Opportunities include volunteering at the CMHA Social Club in New Britain playing games and interacting with members served by the agency or assist with landscaping/gardening at one of their residential locations.

Volunteers can choose one of the following activities:

Social Club volunteer (will be interacting with adult members) 
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Landscaping/Gardening Project
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Homelessness Awareness Activity: Cardboard Camp-out

*no registration required – contact the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development for more information*

Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in an activity that explores homelessness and food insecurity from different perspectives. Participants can stay for the entire event which will include a “camp out” on Vance Lawn.

Location: Vance Lawn, CCSU
7 p.m. - Overnight

 

Saturday, September 28

East Side Community Center - Community Beautification Project

Volunteers will participate in either a mural project or community-clean up event alongside residents from the East Side neighborhood in New Britain, sponsored in partnership with the YWCA of New Britain and the East Street Community Center.

Location: East Side Community Center 600 East Street, New Britain CT
9 - 12 p.m. (8:30 Check-in) 

Down Syndrome Association: CT Buddy Walk 

The Buddy Walk is an annual event to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Volunteers can either help with set-up and event coordination or be part of the cheer squad and encourage event participants to cross the finish line.

Location: New Britain Bees Stadium 

Volunteers can choose one of the following activities:

Event Coordinator
8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Cheer Squad
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

4th Annual Walk Away Homelessness Event

Wear your superhero costume at this family friendly event! Prizes! Snacks! Music! All fundraising proceeds will benefit Family Promise of Central Connecticut, a nonprofit organization that supports homeless families with children regain adequate housing and self-sufficiency. 

Location: Walnut Hill Park in New Britain, CT

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
Walk from 10 a.m. to Noon

Day of Service Celebration – The Big Green Pizza Food Truck

Come celebrate the culmination of the Day of Service with food and fun alongside students, faculty and staff volunteers.

Location: Mid Campus Parking Lot
12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
