Operational Scholarships

Donors may support student scholarships through non-endowment contributions, through either one-time gifts or through regular annual gifts designated for operational scholarships. Awards are made in the name of the donor and may be merit-based, need-based, or a combination of the two. Scholarship recipients must be matriculated students, but can be full- or part-time, first-year or continuing, undergraduate or graduate. Through these kinds of gifts, donors can contribute to academic excellence and student recognition in an area that reflect their current interests. Operational scholarships made in the name of the donor may be in any amount greater than $1,000.

Accessibility & Diversity

Provides support for students in the Connecticut Access Success (ConnCAS) program at CCSU or similar program affording educational access and opportunity to economically disadvantaged or educationally underprivileged students.

Provides scholarship support for students enrolled in any University program aimed at providing educational access and opportunity to economically disadvantaged or educationally underprivileged students (e.g. Educational Opportunity Program, Connecticut Collegiate Awareness and Preparation Program).  This fund also provides support for the programmatic needs and services of the Office of Pre-Collegiate & Access Services.

Provides support for a matriculated, non-traditional student (one who has returned to higher education after an absence of three or more years) with demonstrated qualitied of service and leadership. Preference will be given to a student who resides in Bristol or a surrounding town.

The Travelers EDGE (Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Education) is an innovative public/private educational opportunity developed by Travelers in partnership with colleges, universities and community-based programs designed to increase access to higher education and provide students with the opportunity to excel. It is aimed at preparing students for careers in the Insurance and Financial Services (IFS) Industry. This unique program provides the resources and supported needed to enhance the attainment of the Bachelor’s Degree in business or closely related majors, as it systematically prepares participants to become more knowledgeable and competitive in the business world. Scholars are selected from a specific network of high schools (pipeline partners) in East Hartford, New Britain, and Hartford as well as the C-CAP program at Capital Community College. In addition, Travelers EDGE Scholars must meet Pell eligibility standards, and be from under-represented groups and/or are first generation. To maintain the award, Travelers EDGE Scholars must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA, register and complete at least 12 credits per term, remain in business or a closely related major, have a keen interest in pursuing a career in insurance and financial services, must complete an internship by their junior year, and be legally eligible to work in the USA.

Provides scholarships to a full-time matriculated undergraduate with a minimum of 24 credits earned at CCSU who has financial need as determined by the University's Financial Aid Office using federal and/or institutional methodology.

Provides support for the interdisciplinary field of study that focuses on the experiences of women in society and history.

Provides funds to support the needs and services of the Women's Center such as donor recognition, purchase of books, periodicals, or computer equipment, travel and printing.

Business

Provides scholarship support to recognize and develop the potential in CCSU students who aspire to careers in finance, investment and financial planning, wealth management and business development.

Provides financial support to CCSU students with a minimum of 30 credits, who are enrolled in the School of Business and who have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Preference will be given to students with a concentration in Human Resources.

Education & Professional Studies

The scholarship is awarded to a student studying Athletic Training at CCSU.

Provides support for full-time or part-time matriculated graduate students enrolled in any of the Department of Educational Leadership's academic programs. Recipients shall be selected based on their potential for success in educational leadership and on documented financial need (as determined by institutional methodology). Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have completed a minimum of 12 credits in planned program of study in Educational Leadership. The Faculty of the Department of Educational Leadership may add further selection criteria to the above in order to enhance the selection process.

Provides support for matriculated students enrolled in the Health and Human Services program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student must have graduated from a Connecticut high school and currently reside in Connecticut. Preference given to full-time students. Students must submit a narrative statement which includes financial need and personal/professional goals, a current resume, and academic transcripts.

Engineering, Science, & Technology

The Chester and Joyce Mendyka Family Scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in a STEM discipline.

The Pratt & Whitney Quality Engineering Scholarship is awarded to students selected for the Program from the University’s enrolled undergraduate student body and the University’s existing network of community and school-based collegiate awareness programs, with preference given to University undergraduate students: (1) who hold junior or senior standing who express a desire to pursue a degree program in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, manufacturing management, robotics or technology management; (2) have cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher; (3) have applied learning, keen interest, or knowledge in the area of lean manufacturing and Quality concepts and/or Environmental Health and Safety; (4) have diverse social, economic, educational and cultural backgrounds; and (5) are legally eligibility to work for any U.S. employer. U.S. Citizenship may be federally required for internships affiliated with this scholarship program.

Provides scholarship support for students majoring in Physics.

Provides scholarship support for students majoring in a discipline within the School of Engineering, Science and Technology.

Provide scholarships and other forms of support for the Department of Biological Sciences.

Provides support to the data mining student or students who have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in data mining coursework and service to their fellow students.

Provides support for incoming first-year, transfer or currently enrolled students in the Digital Printing and Graphics Technology program.

Provides scholarship support for students majoring in a discipline within the School of Engineering, Science and Technology.

Provides scholarships to students from the University's existing network of community and school-based collegiate awareness programs with preference given to University students with: (1) junior or senior level standing who express a desire to pursue a degree program in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology or technology management; (2) cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher; (3) applied learning or knowledge in the area of lean manufacturing and quality concepts; (4) keen interest in quality assurance, manufacturing and lean principles; and (5) diverse social, economic, educational and cultural backgrounds; and (6) U.S. citizenship.

Provides scholarship assistance to students selected for internships at Trumpf Inc. Candidates must: (1) be pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering Technology; (2) hold Junior or Senior standing; (3) have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and (4) demonstrate applied learning or knowledge in the areas specified at the time of internship placement.

Graduate

Provides support for full-time or part-time matriculated graduate students enrolled in any of the Department of Educational Leadership's academic programs. Recipients shall be selected based on their potential for success in educational leadership and on documented financial need (as determined by institutional methodology). Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have completed a minimum of 12 credits in planned program of study in Educational Leadership. The Faculty of the Department of Educational Leadership may add further selection criteria to the above in order to enhance the selection process.

International

Provides support for exchange of students and faculty between China and the United States. Candidates must be recommended by the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Director of the Center for International Education.

Provides supplemental support for students supported by the C. J. Huang Chinese Student and Educational Development Fund.

Provides funds for the Center for International Education to facilitate international understanding on campus and abroad through exchange programs, seminars, workshops, and generally, by promoting greater faculty, student, and community involvement in international affairs.

Provides funds to: (1) encourage the study of the Italian language and culture; (2) increase the number of students majoring or minoring in Italian; (3) attract members of the Italian-American community to attend Italian cultural events held on the CCSU campus; and (4) enhance the Elihu Burritt Library's holdings of educational materials to support the study of Italian language and culture.

Provides support to help Poles who have acquired college degrees in technical and other sciences to continue those studies in the U.S., and for grants to help Americans, especially those of Polish descent, to study Polish language, history, art, and civilization, both in the U.S and in Poland.

Leadership & Service

Provides scholarship support to a matriculated undergraduate student who: (1) has earned 30 credit hours at CCSU; (2) has demonstrated lack of sufficient means to meet the cost of higher education thereby financing education costs through full and part-time employment; and (3) has demonstrated qualities of service, leadership and academic achievement.

Provides support for a matriculated, non-traditional student (one who has returned to higher education after an absence of three or more years) with demonstrated qualitied of service and leadership. Preference will be given to a student who resides in Bristol or a surrounding town.

Liberal Arts & Social Sciences

Provides support for an undergraduate student majoring in History with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Provides support to students majoring in Journalism. Funds are remitted annually to the CCSU Foundation by the Sigrid Schultz Trust which is held by TD Bank.
