The Saturday Art Workshop for Children
Saturday Art Workshop will not be conducted in Fall 2017 Semester.
However, registration will be ongoing from the start of the Fall 2017 semester, and students will be accepted on a rolling basis until all classes are filled.
The Saturday Art Workshop (SAW) is a program at CCSU that offers children from the Greater Hartford and New Britain region the opportunity to take art classes at the university. Activities include lessons in clay, drawing, painting, and mixed media. Past lessons have included creative self-portraits, clay animal sculptures, imaginative landscapes, and more! At the end of the program, all student work is exhibited in the CCSU art gallery, with a catered reception.
The classes are instructed and designed by CCSU students accepted to the Art Education Professional Program. Each semester, SAW runs for seven to eight weeks on Saturday mornings from 9:30AM – 11AM. All students from ages 5 (Kindergarten) through 18 (high school) are welcome! Classes begin halfway through the Spring semester, and run through the end of the semester. There are no refunds for missed classes.
Registration for SAW opens at the start of the spring semester. When registering your student, you must send the official registration form along with the required fee, which is $50 per student ($40 per student if more than one household family member is registered). PLEASE NOTE THAT A LIMITED NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL NEED. To ensure a spot for your student, early registration is highly recommended. Checks are payable to CCSU Art Department SAW. The form and payment are due in the CCSU Art Office in Maloney Hall:
1615 Stanley Street, PO Box 4010
New Britain, CT 06050
Please note that we must maintain a 15:1 student/teacher ratio; thus, we will be capping course enrollment for each class accordingly. Additionally, since classes are divided by age, we cannot accept requests for students to be placed together.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the SAW Program Coordinator, Marsha Lewis, at email@example.com, or the Art Department Secretary, Patti Specter, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 860-832-2620.
