The Saturday Art Workshop for Children

Due to the changing regulations involving COVID 19, we are currently planning for another year of Online SAW instruction, with hopes that we may be able to transition to in-person programming. The final decision regarding the type of program (in-person vs. virtual) will be made prior to the program start date, by the CCSU Administration.  Although virtual instruction may not be ideal, we appreciate your understanding and flexibility given the circumstances. This year we will be charging $50 per student, regardless of whether SAW takes place online or in-person, due to the cost of supplies. No refunds will be offered.  We had a very successful program online last year and ensure that the quality of instruction will not change if we do make the transition to virtual.

We will be in communication with any interested participants going forward with any updates. We hope your child will join us this year!

The Saturday Art Workshop (SAW) is a CCSU program that offers opportunities to participating children from the Greater Hartford region to take art classes at the university. First and foremost, however, SAW serves as a pre-student teaching practicum through which the classes are instructed and designed by CCSU teacher candidate students accepted to the Art Education Professional Program. Our students work with a variety of media in lessons that are fun and engaging. Activities include lessons in clay, drawing, painting, and mixed media. Past lessons have included creative self-portraits, clay animal sculptures, imaginative landscapes, and more!

In Spring 2022, SAW will run for 7 weeks on Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Classes are scheduled for March 12th, March 26th, April 2nd, April 9th, April 23rd, April 30th and May 7th. On May 7th, there will be Exhibition, where the artworks which were created during this session will be showcased. There are no refunds for missed classes. There will be no class on March 19th as the University is closed for Spring Recess and April 16th, as the University is closed for the Good Friday Holiday weekend.

When registering your student, you must send the official registration form along with the required fee, which is $50 per student, $40 for each additional sibling. A limited number of scholarships are available to students who qualify for financial need. To ensure a spot for your student, early registration is highly recommended. Please contact the email below for a registration form. Checks are payable to CCSU Art Department SAW. Registration forms and payment must be mailed and postmarked no later than February 18, 2022.

Plans are underway for onsite instruction, with the understanding that this is contingent upon University Administration approval for SAW students to be on campus.

In Spring 2021, the program provided virtual instruction.
