The Saturday Art Workshop for Children

The Saturday Art Workshop (SAW) is a CCSU program that offers opportunities to participating children from the Greater Hartford region to take art classes at the university. First and foremost, however, SAW serves as a pre-student teaching practicum through which the classes are instructed and designed by CCSU teacher candidate students accepted to the Art Education Professional Program. Our students work with a variety of media in lessons that are fun and engaging. Activities include lessons in clay, drawing, painting, and mixed media. Past lessons have included creative self-portraits, clay animal sculptures, imaginative landscapes, and more! At the end of the program, all student work is exhibited in the CCSU art gallery, with a catered reception. Students enrolled in the SAW program range in age from 5 years old (Kindergarten) through 18 years old (high school). We are pleased to announce that an additional class "Explorations in Clay" has been added for High School students ONLY. This class is limited to 10 applicants on a first come first serve basis. We strongly advise registering for this early!

Each semester, SAW runs for seven to eight weeks on Saturday mornings from 9:30AM – 11AM. Classes will begin on March 9, 2019 at 9:30 and end on May 11, 2019. There are no refunds for missed classes. There will be no class on March 16 and April 20 as the University is closed for Spring Break and Good Friday Holiday weekend. The art exhibition reception for the Saturday Art Workshop is scheduled from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on May 11, 2019, immediately following the final class. Parents and students may collect their works no earlier than 11:45 a.m. on May 11, and all works must be picked up in the Conference Room 148 in Maloney Hall by May 17, 2019.

When registering your student, you must send the official registration form along with the required fee, which is $50 per student ($40 per student if more than one household family member is registered). A limited number of scholarships are available to students who qualify for financial need. We aspire to maintain a 15:1 student/teacher ratio; thus, we will cap course enrollment for each class accordingly. To ensure a spot for your student, early registration is highly recommended. Please contact the email below for a registration form. Checks are payable to CCSU Art Department SAW. The form and payment are due in the CCSU Art Office in Maloney Hall by March 1st:
