Full-length scholarly articles and for review must range in length from 5,000-7,500 words maximum (minimum requirement does not include images and tables). Working papers and Commentaries may be submitted must range in length from 3,000-5,000 words maximum.
Manuscripts should:
- range between 5,000–8,000 words, including endnotes and bibliography,
- follow the APA citation format, and
- include an abstract (not to exceed 250 words) and keywords.
Rights for Authors
Authors retain copyright for all content published in 1619: Journal of African American Studies (1619:JAAS). Authors may reproduce, in other contexts, content to which they possess the copyright, although in any subsequent publications 1619:JAAS should be acknowledged as the original publisher.
