Dr. Nancy "Rusty" Barcelo

Dr. Nancy “Rusty” Barceló is a nationally recognized expert in diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.Over the last 30 years, Dr. Barceló has held various leadership positions, including a five-year span as president of Northern New Mexico College and as diversity administrator at the University of Washington and the University of Minnesota. She most recently led a review and overhaul of the sexual harassment policies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and crafted a new diversity plan for the university.

Dr. Barceló holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Chico State University; a Master of Arts in Recreational Education from the University of Iowa; and she became the first Mexican-American to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
