First-gen Students

First-Gen Logo

Central's First-Generation Initiatives are supported by the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost in collaboration with many academic and student support services programs across the campus committed to supporting first-gen student transition, persist and success both academically and socially. As an institution we provide all students with a “blanket of support”, but when it comes to working with first-gen students, who comprise 53% of our student population, we recognize that additional programs and services are needed to address academic, cultural, social, and economic barriers. As a Central Family of practitioners and researchers, we are dedicated to addressing barriers and challenges through a strength-based perspective that recognizes this population’s contributions to a diverse and vibrant community.

First-gen Student Institutional Definition: Neither parent or guardian earned a four-year college degree.
