Blackboard Vista Help

Blackboard Vista is a course management system that is used to provide all of the materials and information you will need in an online course. In order to use Blackboard Vista, you will need to optimize your computer and browser settings. Please read the information below very carefully to ensure that you will be able to use Blackboard Vista successfully.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: DO NOT upgrade to Java 1.6. This may pose problems with using Blackboard Vista. If you have upgraded please uninstall it and revert to Java 1.5. We will post an announcement as soon as Blackboard certifies that Java 1.6 works with Vista.

IMPORTANT FOR: PC Users using Internet Explorer

If you are experiencing difficulty with downloading files you will need to adjust the settings in Internet Explorer. You have two options, the first one is a more secure fix to the problem.

Most secure
This will allow Blackboard Vista downloads as trusted.

1.    From the Tools menu, select "Internet Options...";

2.    on the Internet Options window, select the "Security" tab;

3.    at the top, select "Trusted Sites";

4.    click on the "Default Level" button if it allows you;

5.    click on the "Sites" button;

6.    in the Trusted sites window, type in "vista.csus.ct.edu", uncheck the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone", and click on the "Add" button;

7.    click on "OK" to exit the Trusted sites window, and again to leave the "Internet Options".

Less secure
To stop blocking file and software downloads with the Information Bar
This procedure will allow Web sites to automatically prompt you when downloading files and software (bypassing the Information Bar).

1.    Open Internet Explorer.

2.    On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3.    On the Security tab, click Custom Level.

4.    Do one or both of the following:

5.    To turn off the Information Bar for file downloads, in the Downloads section of the list, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.

6.    To turn off the Information Bar for ActiveX controls, in the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section of the list, under Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.

The Academic Suite is a Web-based application and other browsers and operating system may work well, however, the listed configurations are the only configurations that are tested and supported by Blackboard.
