MINUTES - Friday, February 20, 2004

Present:   K. Carpino, K. Crowe, C. Peppes, M. Roache, R. Schneeweiss, C. Taggart (Chair), A. Taitague
  Guests:    B. Draper, L. Sawyer

Ms. Taggart, chairperson, called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.

Mr. Mendoza, Budget Committee chair, said there was no report.

Ms. Peppes, House Committee chair, spoke about the trophy cases for student organization recognition.

Mr. Schneeweiss was called on to give the Student Services Committee report.  A discussion concerning the presentation of a training opportunity for Student Center student employees as well as SUBOG and Central Activities Network (C.A.N.) volunteers followed.  Mr. Michael Miller may be invited to campus on April 16.  The Leadership Development account funded by the SUBOG will cover the cost of this event if it can be arranged.

Ms. Crowe, Mosaic Center Committee chair, gave her report.  She reported that the Committee has invited the Anti-Defamation League’s Campus of Difference™ program to be presented on March 5.  There is growing controversy concerning this event.  The Committee is dealing with it.  Ms. Roache noted that she attended an ADL training at the recent National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) national conference and she rated the seminar highly.

The Mosaic Center Committee has purchased a computer and a printer.

Mr. Mendoza, C.A.N. president, gave his report.  He highlighted Winter Weekend, “Snowed In,” that will take place February 26-29.  Of particular interest is the annual One Ton Sundae, the Arctic Luau Ball (at the Farmington Marriott), and hypnotist, Michael C. Anthony.

He noted it has been difficult for C.A.N. without the support of the Assistant Director of Student Activities/Leadership Development.  Although down staff, the graduate interns and Mr. Schneeweiss have been of great support.  He noted the need for the Assistant Director of SA/LD position to be filled.

Ms. Roache and Mr. Mendoza reported on the NACA conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Mr. Mendoza had the opportunity to present an educational session.  They noted that they booked several attractions for late spring 2004 and fall 2004.  Furthermore, they met several graduate intern candidates.

Mr. Schneeweiss was called on to give the Graduate Intern Search report.  The candidate book is in the Student Main Office; all were encouraged to review it.  Interviews will take place in late March and early April.

During Open Floor, Mr. Sawyer, from the Student Government Association (SGA), wanted to share with the Board his concerns in reference to vending machine pricing.  In particular, he noted the increased cost for soft drinks.

Mr. Mendoza announced that C.A.N. executive applications would be available, shortly.

Mr. Schneeweiss noted that the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region 1 conference will be hosted here at Central in the fall of 2004.

The next SUBOG meeting will be held on Friday, March 12, at 1:00 p.m., Student Center 1849 Room 220.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Schneeweiss
Executive Secretary SUBOG 2003-2004
