• The schedule for the BMS 190 Seminars has been finalized (mostly), and is posted below in the "Research Meetings" link. We're meeting on Fridays at 2:00 in NC 231. The first Friday (Sept 3) is a Meet 'N Greet session to kick off the Fall term. Check the schedule for topics through the remainder of the semester.

• Here's the text of a flyer sent last week to entering first-year students who have expressed an interest in biology.

• "Well, congratulations and all that, very glad you have your own department now, but what about me? I'm a Biology-CMP major, and I want to know how this will affect me!"
  That's what you're saying to yourself, right? The simple answer is, "Everything will be fine--don't worry." However, you probably want a bit more reassurance than that, like complete information relating to your degree options. Two things will happen within the next week:
  • If you're a continuing student in the Biology-CMP program, you should get a letter within the week full of print material explaining your options. Contact Tom King (or any of the BMS faculty) to find out how to switch to the new Biomolecular Sciences department right away.
  • That same information is posted here for your perusal. Here's an online version of the letter, and copies of two Program sheets: one for the BS in Biomolecular Sciences-General Specialization (PDF file, opens in new window), and one for the IDP BS Special Studies: Biochemistry (PDF files, open in new window).
  Really, it will be fine--you'll see!

• On May 12, 2004, CCSU President Richard Judd finalized the establishment of the Department of Biomolecular Sciences in the following campus-wide announcement:
  

  I am pleased to announce that I have approved the establishment of the Department of Biomolecular Science and the Department of Social Work effective immediately. The Faculty Senate on May 3^rd affirmatively endorsed the plan. The Department of Biomolecular Science evolved from the Department of Biological Sciences and will be housed in the School of Technology. Dr. Timothy Shine will serve as Acting Chair of the Department. The members of the Department are Professors Michael Davis, Martin Kapper, Thomas King, Kathy Martin-Troy, James Mulrooney and Cheryl Watson.

  The emergence of these two new Departments and the expansion of their programs is evidence that the University continues to develop new and emerging fields of study to serve students and Connecticut.
