A Request From the Associate Dean
Dr Odesina says, "The
Student Satisfaction Survey is live as of this morning on our website. Please
...encourage (students) to complete the survey.... They do not have to include their names
but if they so wish, they will be entered in a lottery to win a 4GB flash drive (several of these flash
drives will be given away)." (Posted November 20, 2007)
Another UConn Graduate School Open House
This one is out in Storrs, where the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology wants to tell you about their programs and show off their
facilities. The event is Saturday, Nov 10, from 9:30 to 2:00. The announcement includes this critical phrase, "Refreshments and lunch served for
registered attendees." The flyer tells you all... (Posted November 2, 2007)
It's Advising Time Again
Academic advising is underway, deciding what courses to take in Spring 2008 (don't forget about winter courses, like
this one). Many of you
will get some advice as part of your BMS course(s). The lab period of BMS
201 next week (Oct 30) will be an advising festival, as will the regular
Friday seminar time on Nov 2. If you miss either of those sessions, you must
see your regular academic advisor before registration starts on Nov 5. (Posted October 26, 2007)
Who Wants Money?
The School of Engineering and Technology (including BMS) has
announced its annual scholarship competition. The School has a
large number of
scholarships only for students in the School. Information packages are
available in the Dean's Office (NC 22407). (Posted October 24, 2007)
Oh, You Don't Need Course Advising Because You're Graduating?
Too bad--you have to talk to us anyway! Graduating BMS and Biochemistry students need to
schedule a departmental exit interview to finish the Portfolio Requirement
in the BMS program. Interviews will be held in December; check
the flyer for details. (Posted October 24, 2007)
Thinking About Graduate School?
Maybe not yet, but the UConn Health Center is, and they want to tell you all about their PhD Programs in Biomedical Sciences. They
also want to feed you and waive their standard grad school application fee if you visit them on Friday October 26, from 2-5 pm. The full
details are on this flyer. (Posted September 4, 2007)
Fall Seminar Schedule Posted
Along with everything else, the regular Friday seminars are starting again with a welcome-back-to-school
meeting on September 7. That's when we'll explain what we mean by the event scheduled for September 14:
"Wet Lab Tours." Don't worry, you won't have to kiss the new zebrafish! (Posted September 3, 2007)
Help Wanted: Work Study Student
Betsy Dobbs-McAuliffe, the new BMS faculty member, needs student help taking care of her experimental animals, a herd of zebrafish housed
(tanked?) in Copernicus Hall. Duties will include feeding the fish, testing water quality, and maintaining the aquariums. At this time, only

see her in NC 357. (Posted August 31, 2007)
Seeking: BMS Student Tutors
Interested in being a tutor for Biomolecular Sciences for the fall 2007 semester? Please contact Dr.
Barry Hoopengardner (hoopengardnbam@ccsu.edu) and indicate what classes you would like to tutor. There are
no designated tutoring times--Students seeking tutors will contact you directly; please

Focus on Scholarship: James Mulrooney—Puzzling Out Pieces of Cellular/Molecular Biology
That's the title of an article in the April issue of the CCSU
Courier, all about BMS's own Jim Mulrooney and his research students Jeff, Tom, and Dave. Cute picture too! (Posted June 7, 2007)
