(Posted November 11, 2006)As the Goldwater Scholarship Faculty Representative for CCSU, I am passing along the following information regarding the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Should you have any students who may be interested in applying for this scholarship program and who meet the eligibility criteria, please have them start by reading the materials at the website for this program, which is found at http://www.act.org/goldwater. After reviewing all the materials and determining if they are eligible and want to pursue the application process, they should see me as soon as possible this semester, but no later than December 1, so that I can advise them of some of the details of the process and deadlines. Applicants will have a good bit of paperwork to do as part of their application and it all needs to be submitted to me in plenty of time for me to get it into the hands of the Foundation in Iowa no later than February 1. All application materials may be downloaded from the website. Should you be working with an applicant, please note that the nominee evaluation forms and accompanying letters of recommendation are to be sent directly to me, not given to the applicant. CCSU is allowed to nominate up to four students.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is designed to attract outstanding students into careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students who are sophomores and juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. The scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year. Junior scholarship recipients can expect to receive a maximum of two years of scholarship support (junior and senior years). Senior scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of scholarship support.
Please pass this information along to any students that you feel might qualify and have them contact me (Davidson Rm 112; 832-2600) as soon as possible.
