CentralPipeline
CentralPipeline is a web portal that brings practically all of our web-based resources to your fingertips with your BlueNet Account. It can be accessed anywhere, anytime, from any computer with Internet access. It provides a customized “experience” with tabs dedicated to your role on campus. These tabs can be personalized to display the information and services that interest you. It contains “channels,” which are sections of each tab that provide targeted information or access to services. For example, there is a channel containing personal announcements geared just to you. It also alerts you when your BlueNet Account password is going to expire.
From CentralPipeline you can access:
Campus and Personal Announcements, Outlook Web Access, Banner Web Services (for registration, transcripts, final grades, financial aid, e-billing, and more) and Blackboard Vista.

E-mail
As a student, your e-mail access is set up when you activate your BlueNet Account. Your e-mail address is your BlueNet Account username followed by @ccsu.edu (for example, Mary Smith, with a BlueNet Account of smithm, has an e-mail address of smithm@ccsu.edu).
E-mail Preferences
When you first set up your BlueNet Account, you will be prompted to select your e-mail preference. Choose the Exchange option to use the CCSU e-mail system to manage your CCSU e-mail account; choose the Forwarded E-mail option to forward your CCSU e-mail to your personal (external) e-mail address (i.e. Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). Regardless of which option you choose, you will have a CCSU e-mail address (BlueNetAccount@ccsu.edu). If you choose to forward your e-mail to an external e-mail address, messages sent to your CCSU address will be automatically forwarded to your external e-mail address.
To update your e-mail preferences at any time:
Open your web browser and navigate to the CentralPipeline home page at http://pipeline.ccsu.edu. Click on the “update e-mail preferences” link and the Accounts Management system will open. Enter your 8-digit CCSU ID number (the red numbers on your Blue Chip ID Card), the last 4 digits of your social security number, and your date of birth. Click on the Submit button. Click on the “E-mail Preferences” link.
Read the information provided. Choose the Exchange option to use the CCSU e-mail system to manage your CCSU e-mail and then click on the Submit button.
Choose the Forwarded E-mail option to forward your e-mail to your personal e-mail address, enter your forwarding information (ensure that all forwarding information is correct), then click on the Submit button. You will receive a confirmation e-mail at the address to which you requested forwarding. You will need to click on the link in the e-mail message to complete the forwarding process. Additionally, you may be sent confirmation e-mails periodically to verify that your e-mail address is still valid. You must update your e-mail preferences any time you change your e-mail address.
Accessing Your CCSU-Managed E-mail
If you chose the Exchange e-mail option when you specified your e-mail preferences, then your e-mail is managed by our Microsoft Exchange Server and is accessed using Microsoft Outlook (PC users), Microsoft Entourage (Mac users), or Outlook Web Access. Your CCSU-managed e-mail account has an initial quota of 50 megabytes. Note: If you set up e-mail forwarding, you will not use Outlook to view your CCSU e-mail because it is forwarded to the external e-mail address you specified.
Microsoft Outlook (PC)
Many computers on campus, such as those at the Marcus White Computer Lab or in computer-equipped classrooms, will allow you to log in with your BlueNet Account and view your e-mail using the full version of Microsoft Outlook (PC).
Outlook Web Access (OWA)
You can use Outlook Web Access to view your e-mail from any computer (PC or Mac) with Internet access: Open your web browser and navigate to www.mail.ccsu.edu. Enter your BlueNet Account username and password. Click on the Log On button. Outlook Web Access opens and your CCSU e-mail is displayed.
Citrix
You can also use Citrix to access Microsoft Outlook from any computer with an Internet connection. See "The Systems" section for more information.

Listserv
Listserv is an automatic mailing list server. When e-mail is addressed to a listserv mailing list, it is automatically broadcast to everyone on the list. We maintain four listservs for the purpose of facilitating communication among faculty, staff, and students:
students@listserv.ccsu.edu - to send messages to all students subscribed to this listserv.
academicusers@listserv.ccsu.edu - to send messages to all faculty members subscribed to this listserv.
adminusers@listserv.ccsu.edu - to send messages to all administrative staff subscribed to this listserv.
campusforum@listserv.ccsu.edu - to send messages to the above three groups at once.
How to Subscribe
Open your CCSU e-mail account. Open a blank e-mail message. Click in the To field and type in the listserv address prefixed with “Join-” (for example, to join the faculty listserv, send a message addressed to Join-academicusers@listserv.ccsu.edu). Leave the subject field blank. Send the message. You will receive an e-mail message prompting you to verify your intent to subscribe.
How to Unsubscribe
Open your CCSU e-mail account. Open a blank e-mail message. Click in the To field and type in the listserv address prefixed with “Leave-” (for example, to leave the faculty listserv, send a message addressed to Leave-academicusers@listserv.ccsu.edu). Leave the subject field blank. Send the message. You will receive an e-mail message confirming that you have unsubscribed from the specified listserv.
For more information on CCSU’s listservs, visit www.ccsu.edu/its/usersupport/UserDocs.
Broadcast Messages
In order to distribute important University news to the campus community, a broadcast messaging utility is used. This messaging utility is available for use by designated University officials approved by the President. The broadcast messaging utility allows critical University messages to reach all CCSU e-mail accounts with no provision for “opting out.” Broadcast messages are restricted to the following categories of information deemed important to the unit addressed:
Campus Announcements - notices of importance to members of the University community (e.g., special announcements from the President, weather related cancellations, delays or closings, emergency notifications, information on major campus events, and important bulletins).
Facilities Management - notices concerning campus construction and other projects impacting daily operations.
Information Technology - notices concerning University computer services.
Human Resources - notices of essential Human Resources matters (e.g., payroll and benefits).
Business Services - notices of essential Business Services matters (e.g., policies and purchasing).
Public Safety - notices pertaining to parking, traffic, crime alerts, and campus safety issues.
Academic Affairs and Registration - notices pertaining to registration, grade posting, and transcript information.

Network Space
Network drive space (also referred to as your M: drive) is provided to you when you activate your BlueNet Account. Your M: drive is accessible from any computer on or off campus and is backed up nightly to prevent loss of data in the event of server failure. Your M: drive is not only an easy way to access your files, it is also the best way to keep your files safe.
Accessing Your M: Drive
From a PC on campus:
While on campus, your M: drive works like any other drive on the computer. Log in to any campus computer with your BlueNet Account username and password. Once logged in, click on the Start menu, then My Computer and you will find your M: drive under the section titled Network Drives, labeled with your BlueNet Account username.
From a PC off campus:
Open Internet Explorer. Click on the File menu, then Open (or press Ctrl + O). In the dialog box, type
https://www.students.ccsu.edu/myfiles/BlueNet Account (replace BlueNet Account with your BlueNet Account username).

Modifying Netshare Files From Off Campus
Once you connect to your M: drive from off campus, all files that need to be modified should be copied from your M: drive to your computer’s hard drive for editing and then copied back to your M: drive once the modifications have been made. This will prevent information from being lost in case the network connection is broken.
Editing an existing file once connected to your M: drive:
Click and drag the file from your M: drive window to the Desktop to create a copy on the Desktop. Open the file from the Desktop, make your edits, then save and close the file. Click and drag the file from the Desktop back to your M: drive window. If you are prompted to replace the existing file, click on Yes.
Creating a new file and adding it to your M: drive:
Create a new file in any application. Save the new file to the Desktop and close the file. Click and drag the file from the Desktop to your M: drive window.
Web Pages
All students with a BlueNet Account are automatically given web server space that can be used to develop and post a web page on our server. The standard web address (URL) for a student’s web site is
http://www.students.ccsu.edu/~BlueNet Account. For example, if Mary Smith’s BlueNet Account is smithm, then her student web page address is www.students.ccsu.edu/~smithm.
Editing Your Web Page
Access your M: drive. Within your M: drive folder, you will have a WWW folder, which is where you will store all of your web page files. All files associated with your web page need to be placed in the WWW folder within your M: drive in order to be accessible from the Internet. The name of your home page must be default.htm, default.html, index.htm, or index.html. You can use Microsoft FrontPage (accessible via Citrix, see "The Systems" section) or any other HTML editor to create or modify your web pages.

Printing at the Marcus White Computer Lab or Library
The Marcus White Computer Lab and the Library both charge for computer printing. There is a $0.10 charge for each black and white page printed and a $0.65 charge for each color page printed. You must have money on your Blue Chip ID Card to print in either location.
To print documents at the Marcus White Computer Lab or the Library, print the document as usual and proceed to the Print Station computer. Swipe your Blue Chip ID Card through the card reader to see the list of print jobs. Highlight the desired job (the one with your BlueNet Account username) and click the Print button. At the bottom of the screen, you will see a message with the name of the printer where your job was sent. If you have any questions regarding the printing process, please ask the staff at your location.
Starting September 1, 2007, you will be given a $10 print credit per month when printing in the Marcus White Computer Lab (this may be expanded to the Library at a future date). You will see the $10 print credit when your Blue Chip ID Card is swiped on a print station in the Computer Lab. Money for print jobs will be subtracted from the $10 credit until it is reduced to zero. After that, you are required to have money on your Blue Chip ID Card to print for the remainder of the month. We are planning to upgrade the entire campus to Microsoft Office 2007 by the end of the Fall 2007 semester. This new version of Office features a totally revamped user interface and is packed with new features – all designed to help you work smarter, not harder. The “Office Fluent” interface features “just-in-time” access to tools you need using Ribbons, Tabs, Galleries, and more. Some new features include: XML-based file formats, which makes files smaller and less prone to corruption, citation and bibliography creator in Word 2007, built-in RSS (Really Simple Syndication) reader in Outlook 2007, enhanced typography and graphic effects in PowerPoint 2007, and new products such as InfoPath (for creating interactive forms) and OneNote (for note-taking).
In order to assist with the transition, we will offer workshops throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Visit the Center for University Technology Training web site at www.ccsu.edu/cutt for a complete workshop schedule. If you are unable to attend a workshop, Microsoft offers a variety of web-based tutorials for Office 2007 on their web site, located at http://office.microsoft.com.

ResNet
We help students configure and connect their computers to the campus network and the Internet through a Cisco Clean Access protected network. For your convenience, ResNet (short for Residential Network) maintains computer labs, complete with printers (you just need to bring your own paper), in each of the residence halls.
About Cisco Clean Access
We implemented Cisco Clean Access in order to provide residence hall students with safe access to the network and Internet. Computer viruses are a serious threat to the network; a virus attack on a single computer is capable of infecting the entire network and disrupting network services for everyone. With the vast array of virus outbreaks today, it is imperative that your computer is patched and running proper virus protection. For this reason, all Windows-based computers connecting to the residential network are required to run the Clean Access Agent. Clean Access verifies that your computer has proper updates (patches) and virus protection, ensuring that your computer is safe to be on the network. While connected to the residential network, the Clean Access Agent will remain behind the scenes protecting your computer and the network. You will be prompted to log back in to Clean Access once per week and every time you reboot your computer. Each time you log in, Clean Access will scan your computer for the proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates. If at any time your computer does not meet the specified requirements, you will be granted temporary and restricted access to allow you time to satisfy these requirements.
Equipment Needed
A PC or Mac with a supported operating system (Windows 2000, XP, or Vista; Mac OS X). An installed and functioning 10/100 Base-T Network Interface Card (NIC) or 802.11b/g wireless network card. And a Category 5 network cable, (also referred to as an RJ-45 or Cat5 cable).
Note: A telephone cable will not work as a network cable because the connector is too small. Network cables can be purchased anywhere computers are sold.
Preparing Your Computer for ResNet
(Windows-based computers only)
Apply all of the latest Windows Updates to your computer. They are available at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Install an anti-virus program on your computer. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise is offered free of charge to students. To download a copy, visit www.ccsu.edu/its/downloads.
Remove spyware from your computer using a spyware removal tool (included with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise or you can download one from www.ccsu.edu/its/cleanaccess/downloads.htm. Uninstall programs such as pop-up blockers and peer-to-peer applications (Kazaa, BearShare, Limewire, etc.). Turn off all firewalls, including Microsoft’s firewall or third party firewalls (or reconfigure your firewall to allow Cisco Clean Access).
When you connect your computer from your room, you will be required to log in to the network and install the latest version of Cisco Clean Access, which is used to verify that you have proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates.

Getting Started with ResNet
Plug one end of your network cable into the network card on the back of your computer and the other end into the data jack on the wall. Turn your computer on and open your web browser. The Clean Access Network Authentication page will open automatically.

Enter your BlueNet Account username and password, then click on Continue (Mac users: Stop here; you do not need to install Clean Access and may now use the Internet and other services).
Click on the Download Clean Access Agent button and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Clean Access Agent. Once the Clean Access Agent is installed, you will be prompted to log in again. Enter your BlueNet Account username and password, then click on Login.
The Clean Access Agent will scan your computer to verify that you have proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates. If your computer does not meet the requirements, you will be granted temporary and restricted access; follow the on-screen instructions to satisfy the requirements.
Once you have satisfied all of the requirements, you will receive a message stating that you are successfully logged in to the network. Click on OK. The Clean Access Agent icon will appear in your System Tray (near the clock). You are now connected to ResNet and may use the Internet and other network services.
Once per week and every time you restart your computer, you will be prompted to log back in to Clean Access. Each time you log in, Clean Access will scan your computer for the proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates. If at any time your computer does not meet the specified requirements, you will be granted temporary and restricted access to allow you time to satisfy these requirements.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you have Norton or McAfee Internet Security installed, disable or uninstall it. If you have a wireless network card, disable it when not using the wireless network. If you have a router, switch, or hub, disconnect it and connect the computer directly to the data jack on the wall. These types of devices are prohibited on the residential network.
ResNet Support
If you are experiencing problems installing or configuring Clean Access, or with any other ResNet service, call the Help Desk at (860)832-1720. There are certain guidelines concerning the level of support we can provide. We will make every effort to resolve your issue over the phone. In the event your issue cannot be resolved over the phone, we may schedule an appointment for a ResNet support technician to come to your room. Since “in room” appointments are limited, you can also bring your computer to a ResNet Walk-In Support Center (see below for more information).

ResNet Walk-In Support
ResNet Walk-In Support is available for students that need technical assistance without scheduling an appointment. We will help you install and configure Clean Access, remove viruses, and answer other questions you may have. Laptops, desktops, and towers are all welcome and supported; no need to bring your monitor, keyboard, or mouse. If it is not convenient to carry your computer from your room, see your Residence Director or Residence Assistant to sign out a cart so you can transport your computer to the Walk-In Center. Hours and locations vary each semester and are posted within each hall’s computer lab, on the ResNet Announcement line, and on the ResNet web site at www.ccsu.edu/resnet.
Levels of Support
Level 1: Full Support
Full support is provided to computers with Windows 2000 or XP, or Mac OS 10.2 or above. As long as you are using a licensed version of a supported operating system, you are allowed to connect to the residential network and we will provide full support to assist you with connecting.
Level 2: Limited Support
Limited (or “best effort”) support is provided to computers with Windows Vista or Mac OS 10.0. As long as you are using a licensed version of the operating system, you should be able to connect to the residential network and we will provide our best effort to assist you with connecting.
Level 3: Unsupported
Unsupported computers include those with Windows 98, ME, NT4, Linux, or Mac OS 9 and below. These are operating systems that the manufacturers do not provide patches and updates for and are therefore considered unsafe to be on our network. You may be able to establish a connection to the residential network on your own, but we are unable to provide technical support should you experience problems.
Other Internet Devices
We allow other devices to access the Internet, such as Microsoft Xbox, Sony Playstation 2 (PS2), and Tivo. These devices are automatically registered for use on our network when you plug them in. If your device is not working properly, please use our web-based registration form to request access for your device. You will need the MAC (network) address of your device (instructions for locating the MAC address are located on the registration form).
To register your device:
Open your web browser and navigate to www.ccsu.edu/its/cleanaccess/manualregistration.asp. Complete the online form and click on the Submit button. You will receive a confirmation page. Once your request has been processed, you will receive an e-mail message from Information Technology. The registration process normally takes two business days.

The Blue Chip Card
The Blue Chip Card is not just an ID; It is a campus everything card! One of the first things every new student, faculty, and staff member must do when they arrive on campus is get their University identification card, otherwise known as the Blue Chip Card. The Blue Chip Card is a necessary and important part of your campus experience.
Use it to:
Access various campus locations, such as parking garages, and residence halls, purchase meals anywhere on campus (and recieve a 20% discount at certain locations on campus), purchase meals, goods, and services from a variety of off campus merchants, borrow resources from the Elihu Burritt Library, pay for photocopies, pay for computer printing, make purchases at the Bookstore in the Student Center, make purchases from campus snack and soda machines, and make payments to the Bursar’s Office and other CCSU departments.

Getting a Blue Chip Card - Four Easy Steps
Go - to the Card Office located inside the Bookstore at the Student Center. Show - the ID Card Authorization form provided to you by the Human Resources department, which includes your name and 8-digit ID number. Smile - a member of the Card Office staff will take your picture. Wait - in a few minutes your card will be ready.
Blue Chip Accounts
There are two accounts associated with your Blue Chip Card: a Blue Chip debit account, and an optional bank account with Achieve Financial Credit Union.
Everyone with a Blue Chip Card has a Blue Chip debit account automatically set up; it is your choice whether or not to take advantage of the account. The account works just like a regular bank debit account. You deposit money into the account prior to spending it. Every time you use your Blue Chip Card to make a purchase on campus or at participating off campus locations, the card reader will record your transaction, subtract the funds from your account, and instantly display the remaining balance. If you do not have funds available, you will not be able to make purchases.
Blue Chip Card holders who become members of Achieve Financial Credit Union can activate their Blue Chip Card so it can be used as an ATM card. Use your Blue Chip Card at any ATM machine on the Cirrus, NYCE, SUM, or MasterCard Network. You can have any reimbursements, as well as CCSU employment earnings, directly deposited to your Achieve account.
Making Deposits
You can deposit money into your Blue Chip debit account in many ways:
