Network Space
Netshares are provided to all faculty and staff with a BlueNet Account. Every faculty and staff member has a personal netshare (also referred to as your “M:” drive) and every department has a departmental netshare (usually the “S:” drive). Netshares are accessible from any computer on or off campus and are backed up nightly to prevent loss of data in the event of server failure. Netshares are not only an easy way to have your files with you wherever you go, they are also the best way to keep your files safe.

On Campus Netshare Access
From a PC:
While on campus, netshares work like any other drive on your computer. Log in to any campus computer with your BlueNet Account username and password. Once logged in, click on the Start menu, then My Computer, and you will find your netshare(s) under the section titled Network Drives. Your personal netshare (M: drive) will be labeled with your BlueNet Account username and your departmental netshare (usually S: drive) will be labeled with the name of your department.

Wireless
The wireless network allows you the freedom to access the Internet, e-mail, and other web-based services from your mobile computer without the constraint of a physical wire. There are wireless access areas all around our campus.
How Does Wireless Work?
A wireless network functions like a standard wired connection, but uses radio frequencies instead of a cable to provide the network connection. In order to use the wireless network, your wireless network card must be configured with the SSID, or network name. Our SSID, “lighthouse” is broadcast continuously by each access point on campus, so your wireless network card should detect it automatically. As long as you stay near a wireless access point, you will have an Internet connection. All Windows-based computers connecting to the wireless network are required to run the Clean Access Agent. Clean Access verifies that your computer has proper updates (patches) and virus protection, ensuring that your computer is safe to be on the wireless network. While connected to the wireless network, the Clean Access Agent will remain behind the scenes protecting your computer and the network.
Hardware Requirements
Any mobile computer with an integrated wireless network card will work on the wireless network. Any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network card will work on the wireless network. Refer to the manufacturer’s hardware and system requirements before purchasing a wireless network card.
Operating System Requirements
Windows 2000, XP, and Vista are operating systems that have been configured and tested with our wireless network. Mac OS X with Cisco Aironet 350 Series Client Adapter and an Apple Airport Card is supported on the wireless network.
Wireless Policies & Privileges
The wireless network is not designed to replace the wired network on campus, in residence halls, and in offices, but rather to supplement existing services. It is to be used by faculty, staff, and students; limited access is available to guests. The wireless network is based on the 802.11 standards and uses Cisco’s Clean Access system to protect the network.
Limitations
The wireless network has bandwidth (speed) limitations compared to the wired network. Since it is a shared resource, the following limitations apply: You should not download large files over the wireless network, and you should not stream video or audio (larger than 50 Kbps) over the wireless network.
Wireless Access Areas
Most of the buildings, residence halls, and open outdoor areas have wireless network access. Visit www.ccsu.edu/wireless for a current map of wireless access areas. While you are connected to the wireless network, your wireless network card continuously searches for stronger signals and switches over with uninterrupted service. If you leave a wireless access area, your computer will disconnect from the wireless network.
Getting Started - Windows PC Users
The first time you connect to CCSU’s wireless network, you will need to install the Cisco Clean Access Agent: Open your web browser and the Clean Access Network Authentication page will open automatically. Enter your BlueNet Account username and password, then click on Continue. Click on the Download Clean Access Agent button and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Clean Access Agent.
Once the Clean Access Agent is installed, you will be prompted to log in again. Enter your BlueNet Account username and password, then click on Login. The Clean Access Agent will scan your computer to verify that you have proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates. If your computer does not meet the requirements, you will be granted temporary and restricted access. Follow the on-screen instructions to satisfy the requirements. Once you have satisfied all of the requirements, you will receive a message that you are successfully logged in to the network. Click on the OK button.
The Clean Access Agent icon will appear in your System Tray (near the clock). You are now connected to the wireless network and may use the Internet and other network services. While logged in to the wireless network, the Clean Access Agent will remain behind the scenes protecting the network. You will be prompted to log back in to Clean Access every time you disconnect from the wireless network or restart your computer. Each time you log in, Clean Access will scan your computer for the proper virus protection and the latest Windows Updates.
Wireless Access for Mac Users
The Clean Access Agent is not required for Mac users. To connect to the wireless network from a Mac:
Verify that Airport is turned on. Open your web browser and the Clean Access Network Authentication page will open automatically. Enter your BlueNet Account username and password, then click on Continue. You are now connected to the wireless network and may use the Internet and other network services.

Campus Software License Agreements
Microsoft Campus Agreement
We have site licenses for many Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, FrontPage, Project, Visio, VisualStudio.Net, and the Windows operating system.
Under the Microsoft Campus Agreement, software is also available for home use under these terms: Faculty and staff have the right to use one copy of a limited selection of products on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes. If you terminate employment from the University, you must uninstall the software. The software is not to be distributed to friends or family.
Current Microsoft software available for home use:
FrontPage, Office 2007 Enterprise Edition (for PC, includes Access, Excel, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word), Office 2004 for Mac, Project, Windows XP, Visio, and Visual Studio.Net.
If you would like a copy of the software, please visit the IT Front Office located in Henry Barnard Hall, Room 019. There is a limit of one copy per employee. You will be asked to show your Blue Chip ID Card, review the Microsoft agreement, and sign a form acknowledging you have read the agreement and received a copy of the software. To learn more about our campus agreement with Microsoft, visit www.microsoft.com/Education.
Apple Maintenance Program
We have an agreement with Apple called the Apple Maintenance Program. This program has two components:
Get Current - provides all Macintosh clients with the latest operating system or the highest one their computer can handle.
Stay Current - provides all Macintosh clients with upgrades to future operating system releases and is renewed yearly.
Individual departments do not need to consider these upgrades in their budgets. Please contact the Help Desk at (860)832-1720 to request an upgrade.
Note: There is no “Home Use” option as part of the Apple Maintenance Agreement.
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + Anti-Spyware Module
It is very important to have virus protection software on your computer and to update it regularly. We have a site license for the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + Anti-Spyware software. This software is pre-installed on all campus computers. Faculty, staff, and students are allowed one copy of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for home use. To download McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on your home computer, visit www.ccsu.edu/its/downloads.
SAS, SPSS, MiniTab, and Maple Licensing
We have site licenses for the statistical packages SAS and SPSS. Licenses Minitab and Maple are also available. These applications can be accessed on or off campus via Citrix.
Adobe Licensing
We have limited licenses for various Adobe products (Acrobat Professional, Dreamweaver), which can be accessed on or off campus via Citrix.
Microsoft Office 2007
We are planning to upgrade the entire campus to Microsoft Office 2007 by the end of the Fall 2007 semester. This new version of Office features a totally revamped user interface and is packed with new features – all designed to help you work smarter, not harder. The “Office Fluent” interface features “just-in-time” access to tools you need using Ribbons, Tabs, Galleries, and more. Some new features include: XML-based file formats, which makes files smaller and less prone to corruption, citation and bibliography creator in Word 2007, built-in RSS (Really Simple Syndication) reader in Outlook 2007, enhanced typography and graphic effects in PowerPoint 2007, and new products such as InfoPath (for creating interactive forms) and OneNote (for note-taking).
In order to assist with the transition, we will offer workshops throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Visit the Center for University Technology Training web site at www.ccsu.edu/cutt for a complete workshop schedule. If you are unable to attend a workshop, Microsoft offers a variety of web-based tutorials for Office 2007 on their web site, located at http://office.microsoft.com.
For more information on our transition to Office 2007, please visit www.ccsu.edu/its and click on the “Microsoft Office” links.
Microsoft Windows Vista
We are currently working on testing the new Windows Vista operating system with tentative plans to start upgrading computers on campus during the summer of 2008. Limited support will be available via the Help Desk. For now, we can provide assistance in connecting to campus systems from off campus and from the residence halls.

The Blue Chip Card
The Blue Chip Card is not just an ID; It is a campus everything card! One of the first things every new student, faculty, and staff member must do when they arrive on campus is get their University identification card, otherwise known as the Blue Chip Card. The Blue Chip Card is a necessary and important part of your campus experience.
Use it to:
Access various campus locations, such as parking garages, and residence halls, purchase meals anywhere on campus (and recieve a 20% discount at certain locations on campus), purchase meals, goods, and services from a variety of off campus merchants, borrow resources from the Elihu Burritt Library, pay for photocopies, pay for computer printing, make purchases at the Bookstore in the Student Center, make purchases from campus snack and soda machines, and make payments to the Bursar’s Office and other CCSU departments.
Getting a Blue Chip Card - Four Easy Steps
Go - to the Card Office located inside the Bookstore at the Student Center. Show - the ID Card Authorization form provided to you by the Human Resources department, which includes your name and 8-digit ID number. Smile - a member of the Card Office staff will take your picture. Wait - in a few minutes your card will be ready.
Blue Chip Accounts
There are two accounts associated with your Blue Chip Card: a Blue Chip debit account, and an optional bank account with Achieve Financial Credit Union.
Everyone with a Blue Chip Card has a Blue Chip debit account automatically set up; it is your choice whether or not to take advantage of the account. The account works just like a regular bank debit account. You deposit money into the account prior to spending it. Every time you use your Blue Chip Card to make a purchase on campus or at participating off campus locations, the card reader will record your transaction, subtract the funds from your account, and instantly display the remaining balance. If you do not have funds available, you will not be able to make purchases.
Blue Chip Card holders who become members of Achieve Financial Credit Union can activate their Blue Chip Card so it can be used as an ATM card. Use your Blue Chip Card at any ATM machine on the Cirrus, NYCE, SUM, or MasterCard Network. You can have any reimbursements, as well as CCSU employment earnings, directly deposited to your Achieve account.
Making Deposits
You can deposit money into your Blue Chip debit account in many ways:
Online Credit Card Deposits
Log in to CentralPipeline at http://pipeline.ccsu.edu, click on the “Blue Chip Card - Add Money” link, then click on the “Blue Chip Deposit” link.

They are located in: Elihu Burritt Library (next to the Reserve Room), Marcus White Computer Lab, Police Station, Student Center (near the Info Desk), Student Center (outside of the Bookstore - this machine also accepts $50 and $100 bills), and Sheridan Hall Lobby.

If you undergo a name change or change your status, a new card will be issued at no charge.
