 Dear First Year Student:

Congratulations on your recent acceptance to Central Connecticut State University!  All of us at CCSU are looking forward to your arrival in September for the start of our fall 2004 semester.  I am sure that you are excited about starting college, but you may also be somewhat nervous and confused.  This is normal and part of the process of moving on to a university education.  Since I am the person at the University who serves as a resource for all new students, it is my job to answer questions and to make referrals to those who can help you prepare for your arrival and make the transition go smoothly.

Below I have listed some information that needs your careful attention.

$200 Confirmation Deposit

By paying this fee you are securing a space for yourself at the University.  Please note that this fee is non-refundable.  The payment of the $200 confirmation deposit sets a number of services in motion for you, including an invitation to participate in academic advising and registration.  The $200 confirmation deposit is applied toward your tuition payment. If you have already paid this fee for fall semester you do not need to send in an additional $200 payment.  Payment of this fee, as well as all other fees, should be sent to the Cashiers Office.

For more payment information visit the Bursar’s website: www.bursar.ccsu.edu.

Financial Aid

The "on-time" deadline for first time students to file for financial aid is March 3.  The Financial Aid Office will be sending information to those students who completed their FAFSA application and submitted copies of required 2002 Federal Income Tax forms and the FA Institutional Application by March 3.

For information about financial aid, including access to FAFSA for filing for aid, please go online to www.ccsu.edu/finaid.

Health Examination Report (the medical form)

All full-time students are required to submit a medical form to the University Health Service.    This form includes your medical history, current immunization records, and a physical examination form (within one year prior to enrollment) signed by your physician.  The University Health Service will begin mailing medical forms no sooner than the first week in May 2004.  It is to be submitted and completed no later than July 15, 2004.  We encourage you to plan and schedule your appointment with your doctor in advance so as to comply with our deadline.  We invite you to visit our website www.ccsu.edu/healthservice for more information regarding our Health Service and important health topics.

Meningitis Vaccination
Beginning in the fall, 2002 semester the State of Connecticut has mandated that all students living on-campus in residence halls must receive the Menomune vaccine (the “Meningitis Shot”).  Information regarding the vaccine will be sent to you in a packet of material with your medical form.  We encourage you to consult your physician and discuss this newly required vaccine.

 On-Campus Housing

The availability of residence hall space will be limited for fall 2004.  If you are interested in living on campus make sure that you have completed the housing application that was sent out by our Residence Life Office.  For more information call Residence Life at (860) 832-1660.

 Placement Exams

All first year students, with the exception of students that have college credit for an AP calculus course are required to take a math placement exam. Placement exam information for Mathematics, English and Modern Languages is available at the www.ccsu.edu/learnctr.  Please check this website for how to prepare for placement exams, schedules and directions.  The website for The Learning Center also provides other valuable information about services that will help you succeed in college level work.

 Academic Advising and Registration

In May you will receive a letter from me requesting that you select a date (see below) to come to campus for academic advising and registration.  To help you plan ahead, the advising and registration dates for first year students are listed below.  Note that students are required to attend only one of these days.  Registration dates occur on:  June 30, July 1, July 13, July 14, July 16,and August 25 (late registration).

During this advising and registration session you will also have an opportunity to have your photo taken for your Blue Chip identification card, pick up a parking decal, and apply for an account at the Achieve Credit Union.

 September Orientation

During the summer we will write again to all first year students to invite them to an Orientation Day.  The date is still under review but is tentatively planned for Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29,2004.  You will receive a mailing with more information this summer.

Get Involved!

Once you are on campus make a point to get involved in campus life as this is the best way to plan for academic success.  You can get involved in a number of ways:  on-campus job, involvement in a club or organization, or attendance at campus events.  This is your future and there are so many ways for you to have an extraordinary experience here at CCSU.

For more information about the University visit the CCSU website at www.ccsu.edu.   Please call the Student Affairs office at (860) 832-1601 with any questions or concerns.  We look forward to your attending CCSU.

Sincerely,
