Goals and Strategic
Initiative
(This plan was approved in 2004. In
spring 2008, a new strategic plan, based in part on the plan of 2004,
was approved by the Faculty Senate. The strategic plan of 2008, now in
force and replacing the 2004 plan, will soon be available online.) |

Our Strategic Plan
has been developed around a set of goals that stems from our mission,
vision, and core values.
Learning and
Teaching
True to our deep
liberal arts core of teaching and learning, we strive to provide
education that encourages our students to become reflective and critical
thinkers, versatile communicators, and creative problem solvers who are
capable of effectively working in teams. We also want to enable our
graduates to be in the front of the line for valued jobs. We want
employers in business, education, and a myriad of other industries and
agencies to look to CCSU for graduates who are versatile, focused, and
collegial and who will work hard to secure a prosperous future.

Inquiry
While keeping our focus
on teaching and learning, it is also important for CCSU to pursue advanced
research and creative endeavors. We expect and encourage all members of
the university community to engage in activities that include basic
research, the creation of original works, and helping individuals and
organizations participate in purely applied endeavors.

Goal 5 |
|
Engagement
We want CCSU to be a university that is well known by
the people of Connecticut, and we strive to strengthen the already tight
connections that exist. Engagement between communities and agencies will
not only advance our own reputation but also the reputation of the region
as a preferred place to live, work, and do business. We want to become
more adept at using our natural networks of men and women to help us
understand what it takes to keep the best jobs in central Connecticut and
how we can support all aspects of civic and social life. Thousands of our
graduates who reside in our area will find common cause in engaging CCSU
in serious social, educational, and economic activities. Further, many
aspects of life in Connecticut are global in their reach. It is important
for our engagement to extend beyond the borders of the region and the
state and embrace the realities of today’s global community.

Community
Universities are not
only places where students come to learn; they are also places where
adults work. The way adults and students come together in supportive,
engaged, and caring communities can produce synergies that can have a
large impact on the quality of learning, inquiry, and engagement.
Similarly, history and the way people are organized affect the type of
community that can evolve. Developing a productive and congenial community
gives everyone at CCSU a measurable challenge. Students’ future lives are
at stake as are faculty careers. Success requires building a community
where students feel valued, accepted, and challenged and where faculty are
satisfied and eager to participate in the life of the university.
