Designed for Today with a Foundation for Tomorrow

Expand opportunities for faculty, students, and members of the extended CCSU community to learn more about the complex and rapidly changing world in which we live, work, and learn.

  • Create and promote a wide range of international educational opportunities accessible to all CCSU students.

Rationale.  Regardless of their major, socio-economic status, or career aspirations, all future graduates of CCSU will participate in a world economy that demands knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are informed, current, and globally interrelated. There is no limit to the depth and scope of cross-cultural understanding that can be achieved through immersion in another culture. Our curriculum is balanced and enriched by international education programs that involve either study abroad, service learning/civic engagement, and courses abroad augmented by Internet connectivity. Moreover, the presence of international students on our campus adds to the cultural education of all CCSU students. Efforts must be made to make international programs accessible and more affordable to all CCSU students.  This may demand changes in the way the current CIE is conceived, resourced and staffed.

  • Assist faculty to develop an international component of their teaching, research and service to the University.

Rationale.  Through faculty exchange, conducting course abroad programs, and participating in externally funded research and training activities, our faculty can develop a broader perspective on world issues.  International experiences can inform their teaching, shape research and foster a campus community that advocates cross-cultural understanding, values diversity, and promotes international cooperation.
