Help
If you and your roommate/suitemates are experiencing internet issues call the Help Desk at (860)832-1720.

If you cannot make it to ResNet Walk-In Support, set up an appointment for Face-to-Face Support with an IT technician at http://www.education.ccsu.edu/training/face2face.asp.

Internet
Use an Ethernet cable to connect to the campus Internet.  It is faster and more reliable than wireless, especially in the residence halls.

Disable your wireless when using an Ethernet cable.

Anti-Virus
Download an anti-virus program before coming to campus.  You can get McAfee 8.5 Enterprise edition for free at www.ccsu.edu/its/downloads.

CCSU provides an anti-virus program free of charge, save some money and take advantage of it.

If you think there is a virus on your computer, run your anti-virus program.

Do not have more than one anti-virus program installed.

Keep your Computer Up-to-Date
If your computer is running slow, check to see if your computer is downloading or installing Windows Updates.  Look for a Yellow Shield in your taskbar.

Keep your computer up-to-date.  In your PC’s control panel, double-click on Automatic Updates.

It is a good idea to defragment your computer once a month.  You can find your PC’s Disk Defragmenter by going to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

Computer Maintenance
Dust off your computer from time-to-time.  The dust can cause problems in the future if you don’t.

Do not install programs that you do not know.

Never have your computer save valuable passwords.

Backup important data on your computer.

Uninstall peer-to-peer file-sharing programs like Morpheus and Limewire.  They will not work on campus and they contain other software that is harmful to your computer.

If you spill a liquid on your computer, immediately turn it off and let it dry for two days. After two days, try turning it on again.
