CCSU Alumni Association Donates $75,000 to CCSU

The CCSU Alumni Association has made a generous $75,000 gift to support a range of programs, including Community Central, a student-run "store-front" in New Britain providing CCSU students opportunities to become leaders in helping community businesses and residents. The funds will also be used for scholarship support for CCSU students with significant financial needs.

Alumnus Joe Ward Named Director, National Business Center

After a distinguished 26-year career in financial management for the US Air Force, Joseph Ward, Jr. ’82 has been appointed to a high level job at the US Department of the Interior. As director of the National Business Center, the New Britain native oversees human resources, information technology, acquisition services, budgets, and more for the Interior’s eight bureaus, agencies, and offices. Ward has received many awards for his accomplishments, including recognition by the Department of Defense as one of its top accounting and finance officers.

Alumni Are State's Best Teachers & Educational Leaders

Continuing a proud tradition, several CCSU alumni were selected as this year's best teachers: Jaime Pitkin '01,'04, a math teacher at East Hartford Middle School, was named the East Hartford Teacher of the Year; Jessica Bruenn '99, a fifth-grade teacher at Strong Elementary School, is the 2011-12 Southington Teacher of the Year; and Timothy Maule '91, a teacher at Hubbard Elementary in Berlin, CT, was named District Teacher of the Year. The CCSU School of Education's motto is "Preparing Leaders for Service in our Communities," and that too is a vital tradition: Dr. G. Duncan Harris '00, dean of student affairs at Manchester Community College, was named Man of the Year by the State of Connecticut African American Affairs Commission. And Judith Palmer '90 (MS) was elected President of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.
